Correct way to put clubs in a staff bag

I had no idea there was a right and wrong way to arrange clubs in a staff bag? A pro caddy told me that the woods go closest to the handle/strap side of the bag. I always had them the other way around for use on a cart. Anyone else heard of this?

Wedges go on the bottom woods on top, so when you put it in your cart you get your wedges first. thats the way i arrange them

I wouldn't quite call 4 posts a discussion. It's a valid questtion and there are many different preferenes, I'm sure he would like to hear more responses. For the record I now have mine set up the way the Tour caddie told you. I had a caddie at Whistling Straits show me a couple years ago. It also keeps your driver from potentially banging into the cart roof by accident.

That didn't even come close to answering my question. But after some playing around today, the tour caddie's way does seem best when carrying the bag, but not as convenient for cart use.

 

I asked the original question becuae the caddy came right out and said "your clubs are in your bag wrong." I didn't know there was a right or wrong way.

There is no "wrong" way, but years ago all bags were built the way that caddy thought was "right." Then Ogio (I believe) came out with a more convenient bag setup (your way) and touted the "backward club arrangement" in it's ads.

There's no handwritten rules stating how one should put their clubs in a bag. As mentioned before, the Ogio bags have somewhat set the new standard for carry bags, as a lot of companies are copying their Woode set-up, but it all boils down to personal preference. Until the Ogio bags came along, I was the same way as the other caddy - woods & putter near the straps, and then taper on down to my wedges

i write the number of the club on the bottom of the grip and put them in head first to protect the heads.

Thought this was interesting, my brother and I argue this all the time, go to golf digest.com and check out how Sergio Garcia does it, kind of in a circular pattern around the bag, kind of keeps everything in order. FWIW.

Any bag that is going to be carried is arranged the way your caddie friend instructed you to avoid wear from the irons clanging against 1) any graphite shafts in your woods that would be exposed and 2) your putter, which was always placed with the woods, in the days before putter covers.

Not at all. But I guess it depends on what kind of bag you have. I own a carry bag, so you load it with the woods towards the rear. No problems getting any clubs out, or back in.

I arrange mine a little differently. Rather then front and back, I place my woods, hybrids and putter on one side and irons and wedges on the other. Works whether you're carrying the bag or using a cart (motorised or not). This is pretty much how the 'Woods' system in Ogio bags is designed.
