Talk about missing the point...

Another reminder of how this place has gone to pot.

So just because some random journalist character writes an article mentioning 'The British Open' that makes it the 'British Open' does it?? Lol. And you say that I'm missing the point?? Haha. Just look up the word coloquilism in any dictionary and how it's used and why, maybe a lexicographer can explain it better than me.

Let me put it this way, the use of the Phrase 'British Open' was, and is often used in the media and other sources from time to time for the ignoramuses out there who didn't really understand the difference between one Golf Tournament and another, so that the people they were talking to understood completely what they were talking about. Nothing more, nothing less. Does it then make it the 'British Open'? No it doesn't. Should anyone be offended by the term 'British Open'? No of course not. But whether you like it or not, the correct and official title has always been 'The Open'. But if you still want to call it something else, that's fine, but it is what it is. Your dog may be called Mabel, but whatever you call it, it's still a dog!

Hope that clears it up for you?

Thank you

Awwww, don't be taking your ball home!! :taunt:

Apologies to all the people that understand it, it must be very tedious to sit in class listening to the Teacher going over the same thing over and over again just for the benefit of the intellectually challenged kid at the back. Sorry.

Seems like it should play totally different this week than it did in 2006. Everything looks very green, should be interesting to see who it suits better. Tiger may have to hit some more drivers which never seems to be a good thing nowadays. I like Adam Scott to be in the hunt.

His short game appeared to be a much bigger issue at Congressional. Drove it fairly well by his (low) standards. If he keeps scrambling as poorly as he did at Congressional, he'll MC by a mile regardless of how he drives it.

Let it go, the guy is in a bad mood, he can call the Open in every way he wants, he can also call it Football, who cares, it't the oldest major, the rest is just trolling

I played at Hoylake last year -- it was fairly windy and it was difficult, but hugely enjoyable, if rather expensive in balls.

Thursday's weather is looking relatively benign; Friday afternoon is due heavy rain and winds gusting up to 30mph. Should be fun.

Best major of the year. Going to be a blast!
[/quote]

Exactly! That's why it's my favourite major, wake up early Sunday watch great golf than go play in the afternoon!

The best part of this tournament is that here in USA, we can watch the full coverage and afterwards there is still plenty of daylight to play 18 holes. Bonus!
