A probing question:

Has anyone had any experience using (and/or thought of using) a 64* wedge?

I'm giving thought to simplifying my life around the greens when I'm short sided. Part of me wonders if I should just stick with opening the face of a 56*/60* wedge and just learn to hit all of the shots with the equipment I have. Another part of me would like to use a standard swing to hit the ball higher.
My 60.07 S grind goes pretty high easily and I'm a bogie golfer. If I tried a 64 I think it would be blade city or I'd have a Titleist tattoo from the inside of my left nostril!
That's what I'm wondering. Am I looking at a 'one trick pony'?

All of the options I've seen are very low bounce as well and this may present a problem.
I'm more of a sweeper with wedges and I really don't work at opening up that 7 degrees S grind. I do think more than a 60 degree wedge would hardly be used, and how often does one use even a 60 for a full flop?

I imagine the 64 ones are prob 4 degrees of bounce. Have you read some of the posts on the Edel wedges? I've never seen one but the sole sounds unusual and versatile. Of course you would have to find a way to forge TW's identifying markings. :taunt:
I have seen the Edel wedges and am intrigued by the shape. I found a 'Feel' wedge on eBay that has a similar profile, but a fraction of the cost.

I was originally looking to experiment as Wishon doesn't offer a 64* option, but Pigs has enlightened me.

I'm going to have my limited edition Wishon wedges bent to 51*, 57* and 62*. 5* gapping that will blend seamlessly with my 46* PW.

Great suggestion Pigs. Didn't even cross my mind (which is odd given that I'm a gear nut : )

Thanks gents.

Anytime sir, us lefties can't always get the grind/loft we want together so we have to get resourceful like that. Glad to help sir :)

Good suggestion, Pigs.

PD, I wonder though if you might want to try the 60 at 61 first before you bend it further? I doubt there would be much or any distance loss with that loft, but the additional 2* of bounce could mess with one's head? But that's why they have a ton of grinds and bounces, I guess. Different strokes etc.

I bent my SM4 56 M grind to 55.10 last season and loved it at the get-go (usually use my 60 in the sand).

Bent the older spin-milled 52.08 to 51.07 at the same time and loved it on full shots. In Maui this past Fall I found I was having trouble getting clean contact on chips with the 51 on the gnarly grass, but that probably was the archer. Regardless, I swallowed the Koolaid and grabbed a gently used SM5 50.08 from eBay that should work better with my gaps, but moreso for a tad more bounce.

Grabbed a new SM5 58.08 M grind at even a better price, reading great things about it. Hated the grind, though short trials I admit in the wet Spring. Sold it and went back to my 60.07 S and happy again. I've seen the 58 S grind in stores since and that grind is more me on lofted wedges, methinks.

I am a sweeper and got fit @ Titleist with a 58* M grind. Could open that up np! I feel most amateurs can't hit 60* lobs properly anyways. To be honest, how often do you really use it?! I hardly used my 58*.

Agree, I don't use my 60 that much, sometimes zero on a round, sometimes half a dozen times. But that's true with other clubs depending on the course and the day. It mostly got in the bag as the prime greenside sand club with the firmer bunkers we have here generally. And a very good reason to get rid of 3 wood temptation, going with the 4w instead of 3w/5w and adding the 60 degree.

I really wanted to love that SM5 58M grind, and liked the look in the store, but in real life, short trial as I say in poor course conditions, not for me. It was an impulse buy and as I said a couple of pages ago I don't generally second-guess myself by keeping extra clubs around. So I got rid of it before I tried to spend more energy justifying it and kept the 60 in the bag that I'm become quite comfortable with.

That reminds me, I need to bring my 56* in to get check the loft, it's feeling a little like it's worked it's way down a few degrees. These vokeys seem to move quite a bit from what I've seen so far. I've had them corrected twice already.

Hey Killer, probably that indoor golf is harder on the clubs for that?

It could be, and the concrete under the basement carpet that I chip off of at home too. Feels like it's de lofted a bit, I can't get it under the ball like I could before.

Maybe you should try the chipping into the front-loader washing machine like the young Rory in the Nike commercial. That should bring brownie points wit the wife. :taunt:

I've had it bent a few times though, heck it's been bent to 60* and then back to 56* lol. It'll probably just brake off some day and go flying haha

Honestly though it's probably just me, the club is probably just fine and at 56* already :)

I finally did it this morning, I know I've been talking about doing it for months now lol. I regripped my irons and wedges with velvet midsize instead of the standard size I was playing and butt trimmed 1/2" off of each one of my irons 5-P, left wedges as is for length. Man do they ever feel and look more comfortable now. Possibly need some weight added back to the heads but we'll see when the range opens. I don't know why I wanted so long to try this :)

I also but trimmed 1" off the 910d2 and pulled the stock 7g weight, then rolled up and stuffed 3grams of lead tape inside of the weight and Re installed it in the head. It's got a nice feel now, I may even like it :)

I've compared them visually to the 714 AP2s, and they look cleaner at address, at least IMHO. There's a thread where one poster reported that they were a bit more forgiving than the AP2s, which is impressive if that trend holds. I haven't seen any demo clubs available near my just yet. I'd love to hit them with my preferred shaft.
