Is the feel between the white and the black tie the same except a lower ball flight.
To me, no. The White Tie felt 'looser' to me towards the tip section compared to the Black Tie. The kick point on the shafts might be different. 'Awalkspoiled' might be able to offer more insight. The Black Tie feels much more stable to me. I play the Black Tie in my driver and based on prior experience, I am installing the Red Tie in my 3deep. YMMV.

Ive hit the white and although it was a bit stiff you felt the kick pretty much all down the shaft, bit like the NVS except more pronounced.

I am toying with getting a Red but would like to nail the flex before spending that kind of cash.

Like others have said, the black tie feels a bit more stout. I was going to toy with one in a low lofted head, but I prefer the feel of the black tie more.

sounds like the white tie might be a option for a fwy wood as opposed to driver for some?
From my experiences, yes. I am a high ball hitter so I don't need help off the tee. White Tie felt great in a fairway metal hitting off the deck. Super easy to get up in the air and the ball landed pretty soft. Guys that struggle getting their driver up in the air could benefit from one of these as well. Was planning to let me dad try out my 8x3 shaft I had, but he has decided he no longer wants to even mess with driver.

You could hardly find two more DIFFERENT shafts than these, from any manufacturer. In general, my advice is to adjust launch angle not with the shaft but with the loft of the clubhead and with tee position/angle of attack, and to choose a shaft which suits the way you load the club. If you use a lot of lower hand "hit", if you tend to overpower the shaft and hit high push-hooks, if you're able to achieve a very positive (upward) angle of attack, you'll have better success looking at shafts like the Black Tie, which are often called, somewhat misleadingly, "high-kickpoint" or "low-launch" shafts. If you fight a persistent fade, if your tempo is very leisurely, if you value very smooth feel, if you're always pulling ALONG the grip rather than pushing against it, you'll often do better with shafts like the White Tie. For guys in the first group the solution to poor launch angle, if it can't be fixed with ball position, is often to go SOFTER in the first category of shaft, not to switch designs to the second. Similarly, for golfers in the second group who struggle with consistency, the solution may lie in picking a stouter or heavier White Tie, not going all the way to the Black Tie.

Red Tie shafts sit in between, but are more like BT than WT.

Johnny

If a Driver has a 2 inch bore/heel measurement would you choose either 2-3 pms stiffer or cut 1/2 from the tip of the shaft?

I am determined to get the proper Matrix (leaning to white tie now) and leave it as is,no messing about with it.Looking at 245 cpms

ps I had a Code 5 couple year ago which got abused/brokem

thanks

Now there's a very good question. With the White Tie it'll make almost no difference whether you start with a 245 and tip it half an inch, or use an untipped 248. The 248 might finish half a gram heavier, the tipped 245 might launch a shade lower, but it'll be virtually indistinguishable from background noise. With the stouter-tipped shafts like the Black Tie, the 248 would be noticeably stouter, but still in very much the same league as the tipped 245.

If you liked the Code 5 you'll probably like both the 5X3 and the VLCT Sp 50. If you LOVED the Code 5 drop me a line and I'll call and ask if there are any left in stock in Anaheim (if there were they'd be less expensive than a new White tie).
