For me I noticed a big difference in my misses compared to the MCs that I previously gamed. My usual miss is off the heel, which results in a high, spinny fade that ends up 15-25 yards off mark (like the shot where it starts fading and keeps in fading). With the VPC the same miss is a lot straighter and rather than fading off target, it's more of a push. I mentioned this before but it could be the result of switching shafts, going from KBS Tours to DG S300.

I'm also getting some distance back, especially in the short irons since the trajectory is a lot better than what I was getting with the MCs. Plus I love the looks of the VPC (both in terms of club design and the volt).

I'm now just waiting for the driver and wedges.

2nd round done and loving them more and more. Today 3 buddies and I went out for a bachelor type day for one of the guys and decided to take him golfing. We decided to play two man captain choice match play so we could play a little faster. Well my side lost but I played great (for me haha). again distances are right on for me and didn't have as many misses today except a a bad pull on a par three. Struck the ball really well though haha just had a pretty closed face. My friends tried them out on the range and my buddy who is actually a really good player absoultey loved them. He just wouldn't spend the money on them haha. He plays Adam supers (last years I think) because
He got them for like 250$. But he was digging the vpcs on the range.

Todd, didn't know pricing was off limits...I go to golf n ski warehouse and the srp dictated to them by Nike for the vpc I think for 8 irons is $1099...no mystery. I figure direct from Nike they have a set price for steel shaft upgrades. Like pxi is a $35 upcharge, kbs tour is $15 upcharge. That's all I was wondering.

If nobody can post that could someone at least tell me where to find out or do I need to call Nike?

first round yesterday with the mixed pro combo 3-7, pro 8-PW paired with modus3 120x...oh my.

first on course impressions are this - i need to get them bent to my spec. the pros' are WAY too flat (toe side divots are a solid 1/2" deeper than the heel). the feel is so buttery soft off the VPC's it's ridiculous. on a 178y par 3 yesterday (little to no wind) i hit a 7i about 5y over the green. i hit the 3i off the tee a few times and it just shoots midflight lasers out to 220-230.

can't wait to get these bent b/c i know the performance is there...in waiting.

the modus pairing is amazing. i could kiss my fitter. but i won't.

the pro are going to take a little getting used to, i'm assuming they were tougher for me to hit mostly b/c of the lie angle (every shot had very thick divots...toe went down and just kept on diggin...even saw an asian guy wavin back at me on one...

the VPC irons with modus get the ball off the club face on a low/mid launch...then out and up to the apex and then drops like a butterfly. i know it's one round but, color me vapor impressed.

I went 5-8 PC and 9 & PW Pro. Contemplating getting a Vapor Speed 4 iron to replace my 712u, when I am having a good day you can't beat the 712 but if I am off that club can be brutal.

Love the flight I get on my 712u I have mine shafted up with a KBS Tour V R hardstepped once, when its on its on... I am still going to try the speed 4 just to see. If I did I would probably throw an R300 hardstepped twice in it to lower the flight or tip it since its a .370

I got them TODAY! It was such a great day. I was literally on my way to the course to play when I got the call that FedEx just dropped them at the shop. So I called my buddy and told him to tee off without me and that I'd meet him on the course. I'll give you all a little background and then hit you with the review and pics.

 

History:

I play to about a 10-12 handicap. I will shoot a 38 on the front and a 48 on the back. I'm just not consistent in my game at all and my second shot on each hole is my biggest liability. I have a hard time putting my second shot to the green in a place where I can take advantage. But I'm a hell of a scrambler!

 

This year alone I played 4 sets of irons. Callaway Razr X Black with the stock True Temper M10 XP Steel Shaft. Clubs were very chunky but I started playing some of my best golf with them. Started to feel good about my game and bought the Cobra S3 Pro's with S300 shafts. Very good clubs but they were very light and very small. Then I started to really pay attention to shafts and towards the end of the season I bought the 2012 Taylormade MC's with KBS Tour C-Taper 120 shafts. I loved the MC's. So much so, that I almost didn't bother getting the Vapors. But I just couldn't resist and my shop gave me a good deal on the trade in.

 

Now for the Vapors.

As some of you may remember, I was enamored with the MM Protos. I just think those clubs are the nicest looking pieces of metal I have ever seen. The shape of those clubs is what does it for me. They just look square, clean and old school and they just look like you have to be awesome to play them! If they were available in lefty, I would have bought them and gamed them immediately. Once I saw the Vapor Pro's released I didn't really care what color they painted them, I knew I was getting them.

 

I went back and forth about what shafts to order my Vapors with. I originally wanted PXi's. There was no rhyme or reason to the PXi's other than if I was going to spend the money, I was going to get the best shafts out there. That was until I started playing the C-Tapers. IMO, the C-Tapers are an awesome shaft. They were not low launching for me at all though. The ball went straight to the moon and fell out of the sky nice and light and stopped on a dime. They were close to a full club longer than my Cobra S3 Pro's. So I decided I would get the C-Tapers in my Vapors. While getting ready to place the order with my shop, the guy there who I've become pretty good friends with asked me if I had ever tried the Modus 3's. Of course I said no, but the reviews are great. I just don't know much about them. He suggested I get them and if I didn't like them we could always swap out for the C-Tapers later. He said I would love the "tour ball flight". and that they were smoother feeling than C-Tapers. So now here's the guy I'm buying the clubs from and a whole bunch of WRX'ers saying how great the Modus3's are so I went with it.

 

My set makeup is as follows:

4 iron Vapor Speed with KBS Tour C Taper (Because the Modus 3 won't fit in the Speed head)

5-7 iron Vapor Pro Combo with Nippon Modus 3 Tour 120 Stiff

8-P iron Vapor Pro with Nippon Modus 3 Tour 120 Stiff.

 

Review:

These irons are sick looking. After reading every Vapor post on this site, the first thing I looked at was the paint fill and the PVD finish. My set looks perfect. Next thing I did was take the wrappers off the 9 iron and 5 iron and hit the simulator. Honestly, I didn't pay much attention to the numbers with the 9 iron other than the distance which was hovering right around 128 yards and dead straight. Typically, the 9 iron is my 125 yd club. Then I hit the 5 iron for a while. The sim was saying 198 yards at 86.8 MPH Swing Speed. Let me just say this. Previously, If I had to reach something 200 yards away, it would have never been using a 5 iron! 200 yards for me has always been a 3 iron for me. One thing I was noticing on the simulator was the 5 iron was showing a hard draw every time. But I took that with a grain of salt as I was just so excited to have the clubs I was probably over cooking it a little. So I packed them up and headed to the course.

 

It was 42 degrees up here in lovely Western Massachusetts today. We had some snow last week which has since melted but the course was still pretty squishy. At the same time I ordered my Vapors I also bought the Taylormade SLDR S driver and 5 wood so I was essentially playing an entirely new bag today. My Vapor Speed 4 iron did not come in the order today because I bought it a couple days after my original order went in. I should have it this week though.

 

Ok now for the course. There are no two ways around this. The Modus 3 Tour 120 shafts are the greatest shafts in the history of earth. Picture Project X 6.0 making a baby with Recoils. They are so smooth it is not even funny. On top of that, low launch, then high rising, then 2 skips and stop is exactly what these shafts make the ball do. Now the course was soft, but several times my ball was 6 inches away from the ball mark. Even with a 5 iron from 190 yards it stopped on a dime. My buddy kept commenting that my 5 iron was going as high as his 9 iron!

 

In my opinion, the Pro Combo's have more offset than the Pro's. Because of this I can tell it's going to take some practice with the entire set to start feeling comfortable. I had this stupid Pull/Draw with the 5,6,7 iron but the 8,9 were going right where I aimed. Needless to say, it was difficult to feel good about my game today with that going on. The one thing I will say about the Vapor set as a whole is that they love to hit the ground. Turf interaction was great with all clubs. I don't take much of a divot, but even in the soft turf the club did not dig at all. It could have been the 40 degrees and cold balls but I will say that I'm a bit nervous about my gaps between where the Pro Combo ends and the Pro's begin. I felt like I was shorter than normal with my 8,9 irons and that my become an issue when I'm between a 7 and 8 iron. But realistically who am I kidding? I'm not really that good that it should make a difference anyway! But at least the simulator had better numbers so who knows until better weather conditions.

 

Lastly, the entire set is very forgiving. Chalk some of that up to the Modus 3's but seriously every ball I hit whether it was on the toe or the sweet spot still felt good and the result wasn't as punishing as it probably should be. By punishing I mean it was still relatively towards the target and loss of distance was horrendous. You still know you mishit the ball with the Pro's for sure.

 

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll update as I spend some time at home with my mats and net. But I could talk about these irons all day...

Very nice! I agree about the turf interaction. I forgot to mention about that but it's great! Haven't had any real issues digging at al and times when I feel like it should be a huge chunk it actually os more of a stub and I still make contact with the ball. Doesn't gonbery far haha but better than chunk city
