Ping Tour 65 Shaft Flex

Looking at getting a new driver. The stock ping shafts are not a good fit so I'm thinking about the Tour65 shaft before I get into the bigger custom upgrade prices. Trying to get a sense of how it plays relative to other shafts, particularly whiteboards/blueboards, but other references are useful too.

My SS is 110. I typically find that i have to play most driver/fw shafts in X, but not all shafts. I have a 65ish gram whiteboard in S I like a lot, but in a similar weight blueboard I'd need a X. anyone that has played both those shafts or similar ones and has also tried the tour 65 have any comparison between the tour 65 and those shafts? Local shop doesn't have either to try, I might try and hunt down an S if the tour 65 is like the whiteboard, or hunt down an X if its more like the blueboard, altho an X might be a lot harder to find in demo.

The X is a great shaft for me. I usually play S, but the S in this was kind of "all over" with my misses. This shaft is really great! Stable, yet still launches high enough in that head. With 110 SS I'd go X. FWIW, I just bought another Tour65X to put a Callaway adapter on to go into my 815 when it comes in. The g30 with this shaft is the best Ive hit off the tee in a long time.

Fwiw, the stock tour x that came in my i25 CPM'd out at 279, which was off the fitter's chart. It was like rebar. I freaking loved it lol!

Hi I bought an i25 at the gt demo sale - 9.5 with a tour stiff shaft pwr 65 - great price - and my thoughts after hitting during a round last week - it is that its weak to flex and rather torque twisty - my swing speed is 98-104 - I gave it to my son who is 15 and he kills it - i picked up a TP Jetspeed with a TP velox 60 and its a bomb
- its interesting - insight machine inside told the ping was better and actually hitting on the course The TP was much better- for me its a big difference anyway my 2 cents

Also- FWIW: A little birdie told me that the Ping Tour 65 is basically the UST Chrome w/ just marginally higher spin/launch... (The shaft is made by UST). Duff- How would you compare the two?

Thats sounds about right. Launched just a bit higher, spin was pretty high for me compared to Chrome, but I'm a high spin guy with the driver anyways. Interesting. I hadn't heard that about the Chrome comparison. Good info!

I'll say this.....what I LOVE about the Chrome is the fact that I feel like I can't overpower if. It never gets loose on me no matter how hard I go at it. Same could be said for the PWR Tour shaft. Very stable.

OP, I've got a similar swing speed to you, and I'm very much like you in what shafts I play. I can play XStiff shafts as well as some Stiff shafts. Stout Stiff/Weak XStiff shafts are the kind that seem to fit me best, tipping can be hit or miss IMO. I stopped by a local PGA Superstore this past weekend and hit the I25 as it's been intriguing me lately. I started with a Stiff shaft, was OK but a tad whippy and went left a bit. A salesman came over and based on numbers put me into an XStiff, which was OK but a tad spinny with some weak blocks. He rummaged around and found a Tour Stiff, and it was perfect, nice little push draws like I'm accustomed to but straighter than normal, good dispersion but with a nice little kick. I even hit the stick on the 270 target pin on a fly which he replayed a couple of times as he said he's never seen it before.

Anyhow, long story short, if I were to go the I25 route I'd start with the Tour Stiff for sure. I might venture out into a few aftermarket shafts, but I felt this shaft fit my swing speed well, and also seemed to be a solid stock offering.

Additional info, one of my G30's that I ordered from Ping with their new Tour 65x shaft.. it's 272 CPM's..

Anyone know if the UST Ping Tour 65 shaft is counterweighted like the Ping stock blue 419D shafts?

Thinking that since the Chrome Elements shaft is counterweighted, then the Tour 65 might also be counterweighted.
[/quote]

Don't think so. That the Tour65 isn't counterweighted is one of the reasons the stock Tour65 comes 1/2" shorter than the TFC419.

The tour 65 shaft in a g30 plays at 45.25.
If i wanted to try a playing length an inch shorter, would simply butt trimming be ok on this shaft. Or should i trim the tip as well? I realize i will need to add headweight which will be easy with an aftermarket head weight.

I like the flex of the tour 65 at 45.25 so id be looking for the shaft to continue to perform as it does at stock length, just looking to try it out at closer to 44" for consistency.
