MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

City - I'm still watching (well listening while I answer emails) the Cheetos-Mountain Dew video.

Sample audio:

- You know what would make this challenge more extreme, put some wasabi sauce on it.

- I don't have any of that.

- That would probably too much actually.

- Not gonna lie, my tongue is pretty numb.

- whew!

- (crunching/chewing sounds)

Often, courses don't rate red tees for men.

Sometimes you see an overlap of 1 or two tee boxes that have men/women ratings.

If you're seeing 68/120 or something like that, no way is it rated for men.

We're all playing from the same tees, so the course rating doesn't matter.

We should just go with a slope rating of 113, or less.

Got this from Shakleford's site this morning - I think most of you will be interested in Bobby Jones article on the furrowed bunkes that used to exist at Oakmont. Myself, I enjoyed the "What made his hair grow?" article.

I really don't think 3 hours is long enough.

I really want to have a party, and just put that video on my TV for the whole party.

I've put a burning log on the TV for a party before. Why not that.

Course Handicap will be 8 (but i can see that going south in a month)

I'm going to shoot for a 75 - im hoping that with shorter irons into the greens ill be able to make 2-3 more birdies. key for birdies for me is second shot distance into the hole. putter is pretty much just for two putts outside of 8 feet.

Best I can figure, we'd post against 65.2/113.

just talked to the course. they said 68.7/120 is the rating regardless of gender. don't know if that's actually correct... but it is what i was told. i mean, kids could tee it up from those tees, so maybe it's correct?

good work on the math tho.

Sounds like the same person that ruled on the infraction during your and city's match in the 2015 Cap Cup. What a donk.

That is not correct. Not now. Not never. Drinking out of cups.

Did you talk to the same guy who didn't know the ruling about teeing it up past the markers in match play?

Better check to see if it's ok for us to play the red tees while you're on the call as well.

first of all, kudos on posting your swing. lots of guys won't do it for various reasons. glad you're not one of them. personally, i can't stand looking at my jacked up swing. only leads to sadness, lol.

*insert not an instructor disclaimer*

are you too bent over? based on this still, i think so. you might make it work for you, or it could be the root cause of many issues. you seem to be compensating for your setup by choking up on the grip quite a bit. just a guess. that's really well over my paygrade. :)

i struggle with the same issue btw. below is a screen cap is from 'drive for dough.' yeah, it's with a driver, but look how much more "athletically ready" monte appears to be.

No way the whites are 68.8/122, then they take off 1000 yards and only end up with 68.7/120.

Forget the whites. They have the greens rated for men, 66.8/118, and that's 450 yards longer.

Knock off 500 yards, knock off about 2 points and 5 ish slope points. Gets you into that 65.0/113 area like Abb mentioned.

I'd be surprised if we don't have a couple sub 70's, but you still need to get the ball on the green, and make a couple putts. And missing a drive can add 2 no matter what tees you're playing.

haha, no, not the same guy. what a maroon that guy was. shame on me for not knowing the rule myself. i did have an inkling about it tho. :)

curious as to the rule/guideline on this, gotta link?

edit: i know fabb posted the usga link...

as to the other questions:

- yes, we can walk

- yes, they know we're coming to play the red tees

- yes, these jokes are played out

JJ - hard to formulate an overall strategy for the round. gonna be hole by hole for me. depends on course conditions, wind, my current swing/mental state, injuries... you know, typical stuff for me. i do know that right of #7 (unless in the bunker) is basically death. never seen anyone hold a "normal speed" green from a downhill lie in the rough from that side. brutal.

I didn't see they had the greens rated.

That makes it 64.7/113 for us to post against, following USGA guidelines.

Too bent over?

I say yes. I do something similar and Monte was telling me to correct it. Gets weight out on the toes too much probably. In transition, it looks like your left heel comes off the ground (weight in the toe).

What sucks is if I try to be more upright, my club would be very toe down and also would be too short (I think). FML.

To me, JKC, I don't know if you're bent over too much, but you look like a classic "bent at the waist, not at the hips". Pretend like you're a linebacker, an athlete, like you need to pop somebody, or be able to spring and move in any direction. Look at Monte and Adam Scott. Picture them with their head up. Now look at you in eagle's picture and picture yourself with your head up. They look like a more upright version of this. . .

Kegan Bradley is really bent over at address, but it's still athletic.

Or, simply this. . .

instruction-2013-03-inar01-david-leadbetter-posture.jpg

What's funny is that during your backswing, you stand up a little and then you hold that posture pretty well throughout the rest of the swing.

I actually bought drive for dough and that is one thing that led to my investigation about address postures and how they compare to mine. I gripped down a bit but I didn't think it was that much. Thanks for noticing.

You are really talented. Enjoy getting good

Not sure if serious, but thanks. I have been doing well, but at some points I just fall apart. Driver has been giving me fits on the course so I just keep it in the bag. But on Sunday I was even pushing my 4 iron and super inconsistent.

That's not to say 'ram rod straight back" is the ideal. I know many teachers don't teach this. But, they don't teach "bend at the waist" either.
