How many annual rounds make the we ko pass worth it?
Imo pays for itself the first time I use it for me and my wife probably get 6-7 rounds there in my travels during year
Keep in mind he is coming from out of state so his savings are much more than us AZ residents. As an AZ resident If you play 5 rounds and earn one free round you will recoup the cost of the card and then some.

The smart thing to do would be buy the card now, play 4 rounds before they shut down for overseed and the rates are still low. Play once more post overseed to get your 5th round in and boom you have earned a free round, Usually when I do that I wait and go play again in Jan once they come off cart path only.

You do this and the card you purchased in Aug has paid for itself by January.

TJY is pretty much spot on but a slight counterpoint to his Wekopa need to play a lot to save
My Wekopass this year and I did not play out there as much as I normally do but I managed to take very good advantage of the pass

2 referral free rounds = $200 BTW if you end up buying a Wekopass Tell them Matt Bateman sent you :friends:
2 earned free rounds $180 (one carried over from end of 2014) Another benefit, as long as you renew your card your paid rounds can carry over and if you time it right, play 4 rounds pre overseed and one after boom you've earned a free round to use during peak season.
1 more free round coming up here soon $35-$70 depending on when I use it. Maybe two if I start cramming rounds in out there again.
Savings off rack rates for each round a couple hundred more and that is with limited play this year not including what my out of state guests saved.

Just looked it up I was surprised to see only 6 paid rounds this year usually between 14-20 but then I remember 4 were free ones should be able to get 4-5 more rounds in easily before overseed starts this year to bring me back up to my normal totals
ok i will try and remember to give them your name when i buy my we ko pass in a few weeks. I'd appreciate joining some wrx'ers in your game sometime. maybe sat sept 19 or sun sept 20 we could play at we ko pa. i know its far away. im a 16 handicap, but have played at a lot of top tier daily fees across the country, so im confident my pace of play and etiquette is up to par with low handicaps.

thx

If you know you are going to buy a We-ko-pass, you should buy it sooner rather than later, as rates go up over time.

Anybody have thoughts on the Foothills golf card? Seems like decent rates. Something I don't get though, I got the email from Duke at Rancho el Dorado but the card only lists rates for Ahwatukee, foothills abd club west. I assume it includes the duke too?
Those courses are all in pretty bad shape. They are in the process of being sold. The old/current owner tried to run the courses into the ground so he could build housing on top of them but I think the cities stepped in and said he was violating an agreement of some kind. Anyway, I would not consider a discount card from them until the properties are sold. Perhaps other know more details about what is going on.

I was thinking about getting a city card, but there are way too many accessible courses for me to justify getting one. That being said, the We-Ko-Pass is definitely worth it since you can't book them through a third party (golfnow, teeoff, etc).
HUH? You can't justify a city card: a free round, courses pretty much 1/2 price, free round after so many played for $50? Confused at this logic. Like saying I won't pay $50 for a free meal at Flemings, 1/2 price meals for the year because there are so many other restaurants I can go to.

And what does booking through a 3rd party have to do with the Wekopa pass? w/o the Pass you could still book online at the resident rate? The value of the WP is the discounted rounds, the free members events and the free round after so many played. Plus the merchandise discount.

Exactly...generally not a good value considering the shape of foothills. The rates really are not that great considering you can find deep discounts on the discount sites if you really want to play those courses.

Yeah don't get the card, they are in bad shape(foothills probably the worst conditioned course I've ever played) and you can seriously book it cheaper on golfnow or teeoff than the rates you get with the card.

Also about the city card; it's not so much about having access to other courses, it's about saving money in the winter. As mentioned earlier, if you're down to walk, you can play all winter long and never pay more than $45, vs whatever the wekopa rate is and you don't have to worry about their extended CPO time frame.

I'lol be the first to admit that I'm cheap for golf, but I'd rather play Aguila,Papago etc 3 times(maybe even 5 depending on wekopa rates) vs once peak season at wekopa. Cheap intitial cost and immediate savings there with the rates at Papago for card holders. Plus you get an extended booking window with the card vs public which comes in handy during the winter

Another value of the We-ko-pass is when friends from out of town (yes, puttn, I do have friends, believe it or not) visit they get the We-ko-pass rate. Not sure if the City card offers that. The OB card also has that.

They still have them but they fall into the same category of the savings not being worth the initial cost. Most online tee times an be made really close to the same rate or cheaper.

I've had it happen numerous times where I've been playing with a stranger who mentions using the sw pass to book and they've stated their rate, and I've booked my round online for WAY cheaper

I won one of the acris golf cards (Raven, superstition springs, kokopelli, the old eagle courses etc) but I have no idea what the rates with the card are.

I got it for free, so I'll let you know how it stacks up once I can find the damn rates

I have had the OB Card through ASU and the City of PHX card the last few years. I have felt it has given me the best rate options throughout the year with Tegavah, McDowell Mountain, Eagle Mountain, Karsten, Raven (no longer OB) etc. I know there is a lot of dislike for Karsten, and it will be closed in the next few years, but their Champions card is a great deal. Its $99 through the end of the month and you get a free round the day you buy, a free 4some before Jan 1 and like 10 bags of range balls. You only pay $5 more for a tee time at any of the OB Courses with the travel rate vs buying say the Longbow or MM card and not getting the free rounds, range balls, etc. And its cheaper by $30.

Two things to note, now that ASU is managing Papago, I am pretty sure that the OB Card works at Papago, so not sure the City of PHX card is necessary unless you want to hit up Aguila, Maryvale and Encanto. And second, its a travesty but Tegavah was bought out by Triology and will no longer be a OB course much longer. I have played out there the last 4 weeks and they are building houses all over the place and a new clubhouse. Its a shame as it is probably my favorite course in the area.

One of the things they touched on when asu was moving to Papago was that there would not be a rate increase for city card holders

"ASU also has agreed to continue running Papago as a municipal golf course. That means it will charge Phoenix residents greens fees at rates already approved by the City Council and give residents access to half of the tee times, evenly distributed throughout the year."
