I need your help. The coolest things you've experienced at a golf outing.

Each year my company has a golf outing. The cool thing for me is I am the "tournament director" and I have been put in charge of all of the activities and entertainment. It has been a success for the last three years but we are always looking to improve things. What are the coolest things you guys and gals have experienced at a golf outing? Do you have any events that are "must makes" for you? If so, what makes them so great? We use the Texas Scramble format (Every person hits tee shot and the best one is chosen. Every player plays his/her own ball from there) and it has been a huge success. The pace of play is fantastic and it's different from the typical select shot format.

 

Give me some great ideas that you have or have seen. We have a budget, but anything can be considered if it makes a big impact.

A pair of models dressed as cart girls stationed at a par 3 at the front 9 and another pair at another par 3 at the back. Their job is to look great, greet the golfers with smiles, being all bubbly, handing out refreshments/snacks and goodies like tees/marker/sleeve of balls (each hole has different goodies), and take pictures with the golfers (there's a photographer at each par 3 as well). The big keys are good looks and winning attitudes. These four girls must have been doing it for half a day and they were still super nice and smiling and ribbing the guys all the time. They do have tents to shield themselves from the heat as well, so that is another factor to think about.

Last golf outing I went to, the company that sponsored it gave each golfer a goody bag (theirs had a golf umbrella, tees, golf balls, shirt, etc.). Can be pretty expensive depending on what your budget is, but could substitute cheaper items that fall in your budget.

See if you can get a surprise celebrity to show up. Even if only local, it adds to the fun. Also if you can pair with one of the local breweries, maybe you can get them to come with a keg at one of the holes for a limited cost since it's marketing for them.

Maybe have top execs donate something for the closest to the pin or longest drive - e.g. great seats at a sports venue. Plus have a putting competition at the end (or beginning).

Some good ideas so far. I'm already thinking of the celebrity appearance and thought that would be an idea. We have had a retired NASCAR driver, Super Bowl winning WR, and MLB pitcher that have played which is cool. They live locally though so it's not as flashy as it sounds, just nice to have them there to enjoy themselves.

I thought about some sort of contest with the winner receiving a nice prize (cash or a trip or something like that).

One of the coolest things I've witnessed at a golf outing was a Re-Max long drive champion was stationed at the tee box of the last par 5 (our 17th hole). He hit one drive for each group coming through in the scramble format tournament. He pumped one out there around 390 for our group. We had wedges into the green! After the tournament, he put on a show hitting bombs, huge slices and hooks, funky clubs like a 26" driver which he hit 260 yards, etc... Seeing this talented and flexible guy hit bombs up close was both impressive and memorable.

I've played in a few great corporate days where things have been added in and definitely added value:

1. Corporate day for an F&B chain - pop-up cocktail bar before the 1st tee followed by bins of beer every three holes. You got extra points if your team drank a beer each out of every bin. By 18 I could barely see the ball but it was a good awards event afterwards.

2. Yellow ball contest - yellow ball given to each team and you have to try and get it round the course without losing it playing alternate holes within your foursomes I.e. I would play holes 1,5,9,13,17. Lowest yellow ball total stableford score wins a prize. It's amazing how few get round. We won with 32 points and I've never hit so many seven irons to keep it in play.

3. If you have a warm up range for before, put the long drive contest and nearest the pin on there. You'll see some people really try to rip it and swing out of their shoes.

One fun game is multiple flags on a green. Pay $5 or whatever and have a deuce pot on that hole only. Then most everyone has a chance and people tend to enjoy it.
