TW and Como

You cant show up to 6 tournaments a year and expect to beat people who are playing and practicing every week. That alone will kill your game.

Tiger is done. Plain and simple. His head is messed up, his swing is messed up, and he does not play enough tournaments. There's no easy fix. I say retirement is not far off not matter how much talking he does about how his game is almost there. Tiger does not like to play like this. He will retire within 3 years.

Like every thread about Tiger post Butch Harmon, Tiger simply uses these guys as a second set of eyes, and to review the video/data. Tiger decides how he swings and what he will work on. These instructors keep taking heat for hurting his game, when the only person responsible for that is Tiger himself.

There are three other main factors that aren't talked about much:

1. He's overcoming a lot of injuries and ailments that people play down as if they aren't a major contributing factor to his play and issues.

2. Tiger USE to putt like Jordan Spieth, and he now putts more like he's Adam Scott, and that's the result of age and all of his time being spent on the full swing.

3. I'm pretty sure the guy became disinterested and wanted to retire. His desire to chase history alone is what is motivating him to put the work back into it again. He was just showing up to collect Nike checks for several years. Haney gave the public a glimpse into that, but it was dismissed. I think he was telling the truth about Tiger losing interest in everything that came with his path to Jacks record... the pressure, the media, the scrutiny, ... all of it.

I enjoyed watching Tiger when he was in form, but I never considered myself a Tiger fan. I was more of a member of Phil The Thrill club. Having said that, I keep thinking it's foolish to underestimate the heart of a champion, especially one with 14 majors under his belt. Barring further debilitating injuries, in time he'll get his swing back. Whether it's good enough to win another major, let's wait until he wins a few tour events then we'll discuss later.

His comment, 'I've never done XXX before, and I think i've had a pretty good career' shows how much he's living in the past. Wake up, you're past routine no longer works for you, adapt or you'll be the biggest hero to zero athlete in the history of sports.

At Chambers Bay I sat in the stands and watched Tiger warm up. He started with L arm only wedges hitting a few short shots. He then moved through the bag hitting alternate fade/draw shots. Near him was Brandt Snedeker. I was struck by the difference in ball movement. Sned hit nearly all his shots dead straight while Tiger moved the ball quite a lot. Never the less as many have said he looked in control on the range. Somehow he cannot take that to the course.

Once he misses he starts to press and lunge and swing in a violent and uncontrolled way. Surely he knows or has been told by his "consultant" the difference but he just keeps on doing it anyway. He is consumed with getting his speed back and evidently determined to keep up with the likes of Rory and Day and cannot accept that he is older and has been injured.

He needs to play a different game or he will continue to struggle. Maybe for him it is an all or nothing thing.

I wonder if he didn't go through the multiple swing changes (starting with Haney) I wonder how many more majors he would have won. Tigers Harmon swing was so much more free and balanced.


He should go back to the 975D with steel shaft too. :P

Completely agree!!! If you believe Haney's book, he constantly had to reel Tiger back in and he believed that Tiger wasn't capable of sticking to the plan by himself. He needs a strong coach that sets the rules and that keeps him focused on what's most important. Tiger's work ethic is very good apparently, but he needs help to apply himself productively. I don't know anything about Como, but he clearly isnt doing TW any good.

He's going to be on fire so much he'll feel he needs to give the other plays a chance.
