I share your sentiment regarding the VAS irons in a kind of "Land of Misfit Toys" sort of way. I have never seen a set of Brownings first hand, but I do recall the various postings on the board with their advertising material. I guess it all comes down to what one's design sensibilities are and what appeals to you. There have been lots of examples of unique looking clubs over the years whose design tenants were ease of use.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Yet another contribution to the ever growing VAS lovefest. Who started this? <finger pointed at Blade Junkie> Thank you for at least having the decency to not post pics of said clubs. Still to early for such viewing here in the States N.A. (Edit - respect for our Canadian brethren). Scruffy, perhaps your contribution will earn you an invitation to the "VAS Cup" shootout being arranged by the esteemed contributors B-J and B-S. BYOC.

There has been a local CL listing running for a month of more for a set of TS irons. Price keeps dropping, still no takers I assume. Maybe if it gets to $10? They sure look.......interesting.

Sounds like an opportunity for an enterprising individual! ;)

Oh yes and let's not get too carried away with this notion of a VAS lovefest. It is too early in the morning!

LOl one of the guys I played with yesterday plays a set of VAS irons and loves them. Been playing them for a while. We were messing around a while and he asked me if I wanted to hit one? I told him I did not want to look at them much less hit one.

I was playing golf with a guy one time and he had a set of clone Slingshots. He hit like the 7 iron I think it was and the club made a funny zinging sound and something came flying off on the follow through. We looked and it was that piece of metal that gave it the Slingshot effect I reckon. It went zinging like shrapnel. We were rolling on the ground laughing. Some time later he told me that the same piece came off several of those clubs. Now I will say again and point out these were CLONES and cheap ones at that. Actually they were cheap heads with decent shafts (TT-Lites) I ended up getting him a set of Infiniti Assure heads and built him a decent set cheap with the existing shafts from his clones

Forgot about the Molitor golf ball....A rich doctor played them so I thought they were like this super expensive great ball and I relished finding them in the woods and showing my friends...we thought they were gold back then....

OMG what a rock especially on a cold morning mishit with a blade 2 or 3 iron--- thoughts on that makes my hands hurt now :taunt:

Those bring back memories! We used to be joined by the brother-in-law of my regular weekend playing partner. At the time, we played Monday mornings -- EARLY! This fellow was retired in his late 60's I'd guess and played a minimalist bag of sorts; bits and bobs that centered around an old WS Pro Staff set.

3W off the tee exclusively. 5W for all shots from 150-180. A high lofted hybrid for under 150 and then maybe a 7 iron and a couple of wedges plus a putter.

He was always in the fairway and could chip and putt well. The rest of his game, not so much; couldn't elevate a ball that wasn't on a tee. He only played the one course and if not with us, alone. He was always right around 90, + or -. He played Molitors exclusively. I had never seen them before and asked where he got them. I think he told me that he had bought them by the bag at Wal-Mart.

This guy would be the definition of speed golf. If we weren't done walking 18 in 3 hours, he'd be p*ssed! He used to get so mad at his BIL for wasting time searching for balls that I'm sure that's why he quit playing with us!

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

The original Molitor was intended to be a premium product, retailing for $24 a dozen when Top-Flite and Dot retailed for $16.

This version was in the catalog until 1985. Sometime after that, it was just another of the million names Spalding used on department store balls, and was used even after Callaway bought Spalding's golf business.

But yes it was a very hard ball. I remember reading somewhere that the original Top Flite was 110 compression, and I'm sure the Molitor was every bit of that if not a little more.

"You think we play the same stuff you do?"

Thanks It is called the MIni Bulldog because I have a genuine Mack Bulldog on the hood. Put two and two together that part in my signature about when the tailgate drops and you have it. The Bulldog has credibility it came of a 1961 B-60 that I used to drive and I drive a Mack in my real job now
