I had a deer once come up behind me and stick it's head into my lower back gently while i was putting....just kind of to nudge me. Never had that happen before, usually they are scared of people. But in this area i guess they are used to seeing them, and maybe some feed them i guess.

I once worked on a remote construction job and came around a bend in the road to find mama bear sitting in the middle of the road. I stopped and she sat there until her cubs crossed then followed them. We would see her and the cubs walking across the drained lake from about a mile away every day, but no one else ever saw them that close up.

Took this last July. This guy feasted on my neighbor's garbage then took a nap under a tree in my back yard!

The bad thing is it was mid day and it had no fear. Usually around here, bears come out around dusk or early morning. It kept going inside the maintence workers garage and two workers ran golf cars near and it just stood there and looked. At one point it did a semi charge unfortunately straight towards me.

Never seen a bear on the course but I have come across a moose and her calf(?) near the green on a par 3. They stayed there eating off the trees for quite a while. The hole was so backed up by the time they ventured off that there were probably 10-12 groups stacked up.

 

Funny thing, the course above is in a state park and my parents used to have their company picnic at a pavilion and softball field in the park. One year during the softball game a moose came storming out of the trees and just stopped about second base. It started kinda dancing its front feet and looked a bit spooked. Needless to say, the game was over. Luckily no one got hurt. From what I understand moose are pretty violent when confronted.

Bears are so cool. Top 5 animals for me. They'll rip something to pieces then five minutes later take a nap in the shade. Also, something that big should not be able to climb trees, but they can somehow..

If you're packing enough firepower to down a bear or a moose whilst on the course then golf is probably not the reason you left the house today. Most handgun rounds are only going to piss off an already agitated wild animal. Best to let them be until they move on.

We see bears on our courses now & then, also deer, elk, mountain lions, bobcats, fox, wild turkeys, jack rabbits, & we even have a herd of wild horses. Mountain life at it's finest....but the clean up & repair is an on-going problem. Oh....a few rattlesnakes have been spotted also.

Reminds me of the video of the guy in a tree stand and the bear scales that tree like it's nothing just to come and sniff him out. I would have crapped my pants being that close to a bear.

We get a lot of bear out here on the Tahoe courses. Saw one just last week. A big one at least 450lb..I had one walk across the tee box in front of me last year paying no attention to the fact I was there. He walked over to the trash can, thrashed it over and ate all that was in there, then moved on.. A lot of it has to do with the fact courses are some of the only places that don't have "bear boxes". Open trash cans with your half eaten tuna club are fair game!

Moose can be violent since they're so large they don't need the common sense most animals develop to avoid people. At least bears are smarter. If a bear gets you, you deserve it because you did something to the bear.

stay away! as cute and seemingly harmless they are

they will rip you to shreds if they feel threatened or even

protective of their cubs. don't underestimate their lumbering

size. they will outrun you on your golf cart and proceed to make

hamburgers of your back

My first reaction reading this was..."Should have yelled FOOOORRRRREEEEEE!" I'm sure there are plenty of golfers who would start running at you with no fear at all after a ball lands near them lol.

 

In all seriousness though, that sucks. I'd hate to run across a bear on a golf course.
