Broke a beauty with a bending bar...options?

Recommended Posts

So let's recap...

Someone tried to bend a putter that should never be bent in the first place and it broke.

Instead of throwing it in the trash you decided to send it to Odyssey in the hope that they will take pity and send you a new putter? For shame.

They love their putters to a point that puts the other companies to shame. I have never received the level of attention and helpfulness that Odyssey has provided to me over the last two years from any other OEM. They go above and beyond to take care of their most loyal customers.

That putter should go in the trash. It's not Odyssey's fault that it some knucklehead broke it so you should not put them in a no win position by sending it in for "repair", knowing full well that they can't fix it.

You have grossly underestimated the value of this incredibly rare putter.

I will post back in due time when I get it back

Is that a joke? It's cast putter with a plastic insert. Probably costs Odyssey $15 to make.

1. LOL

2. This putter is a super rare Odyssey tour issued putter. It has a butane finish, the original White Hot insert with the tour only black swirl. I have never seen another one of these heads with an shaft over hosel stub. This has no sightlines, and a sight dot.

3.) The cost of manufacturing a putter is much greater than $15. An initial putter run is very expensive and the cost per head goes down as you make them. This putter is so rare, that it can be argued that this putter actually cost way more to make than a standard odyssey putter.

4.) Not everyone has an eye for the rare and unique, and thats ok, everyone is different. If someone shows me a suped up Ford Mustang, who cares, its just a Mustang to me. Might be cool to someone else, but Ford is a worthless brand to me, but thanks for buying American. Id rather drive a Vette. Rolex and Timex both tell you the time, but one is way better and if you dont recognize that, then you are a fool and theres no helping you.

5.) This putter is getting the best treatment known to man.

It's not rare for Odyssey. They probably have dozens if not hundreds sitting around. And it's as cheap to produce as any putter on the market. Cast with a plastic insert.

If you love it that's great. If it would sell for $2,000 on ebay that's fine. But to Odyssey it's another cast putter in terms of its cost to make.

And if it's as rare as you think it is I'm amazed that you let some idiot try to bend it at the spud. That's not the bend point for lie adjustments on that putter.

Edit - For the record I game a tour tri-sole Newport 2. So I know expensive putters. But I know that my $2,500 tri-sole is really no better or different than a $300 Studio Stainless. I just like the Titleist stamped in the cavity.

How does how much a putter cost to make have anything to do with how much it's worth? I'm 99.9999% sure all those $1000+ Scotty Circle T putters don't cost Scotty $700 to make.

In my first post I said Odyssey could replace it for far less than it would cost to fix it. That's why it matters what it cost to make. I said nothing about its worth because Odyssey doesn't source their replacements from ebay.

Okay, for arguments sake let's say Odyssey is properly motivated to save this putter. In order to do so first the finish would have to be stripped and (most likely) the insert(s) removed, then the neck welded, the weld would then need to be dressed down with a file and sandpaper, and lastly the putter would need a full refinish and the inserts replaced. I'm pretty sure a company like Odyssey could effect such a repair (or subcontract it out) but the cost to them will be WAY more than what the head cost to make in the first place.

So what's in it for Odyssey? Is this putter for a well known tour player? Does Odyssey get some advertising exposure from having this putter in the hands of a pro? Or are we simply appealing to the benevolence of a customer focused company in the hope that they will either give you a new putter or eat the cost for repair? Figure on 2-3 hours of labor at $50+ per. Not to mention the up front customer service people that have to process the putter through their shop, box and ship. It's no wonder so many golf equipment companies are losing money these days.

Sweet! Like the one I tried to sell on eBay last month...the guy wouldnt pay the 3200 he bought it for.

This one is better than your avg putter. Tour gamed and GSS, circle t's are milled, not stamped.

As it goes for the Odyssey...its just rare, regardless of the materials its made of. Its the design features on the putter.

I bent it. I was so close to getting the specs set for a straight shaft. I just went a touch too flat with the lie...my bad. Lesson learned.

I think their passion for their putters and their great attention towards their most loyal customers outweighs the cost. Brand differentiation, as in, they are the only company who has this level of customer service. Its actually beyond customer service. Its the equivalency of walking into the van and getting helped out.
