Scotland Golf Trip 2017

Recommended Posts

St Andrews application for play next year begins next week August 24th for 2017 play. Planning to play in August. Have 8 golfers. Should we all apply 2 different days or mutliple to increase odds of playing or should we be safe just applying one day? We will be staying in St Andrews so we could always do the lottery or walkup but would rather have it locked down.

I started a Scotland Golf planning trip in another forum not knowing about the regions. But as a group we have decided to plan the trip ourselves saving a good bit of money. Plan to stay at Marine Troon Hotel 3 nights and rent a townhouse in St Andrews for 6 nights. All planing depends on getting tee time at St. Andrews. Playing 6-8 rounds

I spoke to the starter on the Old Course last week and he said that of late he has been getting 75% of golfers out, but that is likely to be singles. If you want to play as a group then I'd advise getting a booking locked in.

For other stuff to do I'd look at

  • St Andrews itself is great and the golf museum is worthwhile.
  • I think getting along to Forgans for some malt flights is probably a good idea too, and there is now the Eden Mill Gin experience under the Rusaks or the distillery itself is 10 miles away at Guardbridge.
  • There is also a WW2 bunker in Anstruther if that floats your boat, but it might not be for everyone. If you're down as far as Crail then you're almost there. http://www.secretbunker.co.uk
  • There is a newly opened Pub/Kitchen in Elie called the Ship Inn, it's managed by a friend so if you're intent on heading across I can PM you some details. The food, craft beer and most important in July, the view are excellent. Probably a unique experience when compared to the lovely USA. Speith and Reed stayed in a house across the bay in Elie for the Open. http://www.shipinn.scot/

We are applying as well. I have been told that if there are multiple applications for the same group, all will be in-valid and that you must do only one application.

I understand that the same as well. But it sounds like you can apply for 3 different 2 weeks windows on the same application. I wonder if anyone else has seen the application. I don't think its even viewable till 24th.

I just applied this morning for me and two others. Were going over in the date range of 5-22 to 6-9 for a week. Assuming the tee time is Tuesday or later in week we are going to drive up to Highlands for a couple days. Play Castle Stuart and Royal dornoch then come back and stay the Rusacks and play the Old(hopefully) then Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, and one of the other St. Andrews courses.

Depending on timing, if you guys are three, we should keep in touch. We're only in St Andrews from the 21-26th though, and then it's Edinburgh for my wife's benefit. But if schedules can align...

We are in for 8 golfers in late June......It might be October by the time we get notified.

Do they do it in different waves? I thought everyone is notified end of October?
