Better course: Wade Hampton or Mountaintop?

Playing these two and The Honors Course in a few weeks. For those who have played them, how do you rate them? Are they underrated or overrated?

congrats, that's a hell of a week

they are top-end private courses.

the NC courses are great, but the honors is the best of the bunch, but I grew up playing there, so I'm a bit biased

Wade Hampton is good but a little over rated. Honors Course is over rated definitely not top 100 imo but a fun round. Mountaintop is a great club with great amenities but a mostly forgettable golf course.

I prefer Mountaintop over Wade Hampton. Both in amenities and course.

Wade Hampton is good but a little over rated. Honors Course is over rated definitely not top 100 imo but a fun round. Mountaintop is a great club with great amenities but a mostly forgettable golf course.

Just curious to get your thoughts on Honors. I could be convinced there are some courses ranked lower that should be higher than it, but not top 100 seems silly.... The collection of par 4's is some of the strongest in the country.

The Honors Course is really good. I too, though, agree that it is overrated.

Of the four par-5s, only #6 stands out. Holes 2, 11, and 17 are average holes.

The first four holes are just there. Absolutely nothing of note in those starting holes.

I agree with your thoughts on Honors and I'd add that I don't like the holes around the lake they are very contrived and also the greens could be more interesting in spots. Just not a course I feel stands out in many ways. It's not even my favorite course in that area.

1. Honors could keep the lake. Instead of building mirroring par-4s around it, they could have easily made #15 an exciting par-5. Those tees could easily have been moved 100 yards back. And there is some elevation change on the property; Dye just didn't do a whole lot with it.

That being said, it's still a very good course. Based on my experience, not a Top 100 though.

Mountaintop is a nice place but not even in the same ballpark as the Honors Course as far as the golf experience. Wade Hampton is incredible. They are shutting it down this summer and re-sodding the greens and rough. Poa problems..
