Haven't done it personally but I imagine one of those fitting labs could do it better than PGA SS. I think it's called Club Champion, or there's Modern Golf if you're in Canada.

More than likely, you are right....but I don't have the $ to drop for that fitting any time soon. I'm just curious if anyone has trade the Tour Van experience and what their thoughts were on how it went.

I second that.

Nice review! I'm very leery about doing a fitting there. We really don't have many places to get fit in MN. I had a bad experience at Totally Driven and don't want to go back.

I appreciate the nice words. I think itll depend on your fitter. If you know the guy that may help. Ill also throw in another cheap plug

Check out the rest of the blog too! haha

I did this last year in their Roswell, Georgia location and thought it was worth every penny of the $50 or so they charged (driver fitting). Robert Bertrand was the fitter and worked with me well past the allotted time, went over everything in detail and pointed me in the right direction for shafts at several price points. They provide print-outs and emails with all of the data. In my experience, it was much less "salesy" than Club Champion, perhaps because he's an added service at an existing business and not necessarily the primary revenue generator. I'm sure it depends on the person doing the fitting, though. Headed back there tonight for a FW/hybrid fitting after another bad experience at Club Champion earlier this week.

I stopped reading after I saw Optishot and fitting used in same sentence. Seriously they didn't have a GC2 or Trackman?

Don't accept everything that you read on the internet as truth. PGATSS is using the Foresight GC2. You can find the info here Calling it an Optishot is a brutally bad journalism error. The only thing I can think is that he's using the word "Optishot" as a synonym for "golf simulator".

The PGATSS van prices look incredibly affordable compared to most others places. My understanding is that the guys working there are NOT on commission either so they really have no incentive to push you a certain way or even push for an immediate purchase. It's just going to depend on who your fitter is and whether you like how they run you through things. I've looked into Club Champion but it's relatively expensive and even some people posting here have had bad experiences there as well.

I see your in Greenville, TX. Might want to take a look at GolfTech in Plano.

Thanks...i'll look into them.

my biggest thing I guess I need to figure out is....will they require me to buy the irons there, or will I get a sheet of my specs?

On the flip side, if you do plan to buy irons you should negotiate a discount or a waiver of the fitting cost.

I cant believe i called it optishot. It was most certaintly a foresight.

I edited my write up. I cant believe I did that.

I can't imagine someone trying to fit themselves using an Optishot...but I'm sure it's happened haha. All good.

My biggest concern with the PGATSS is the short amount of time for each session. Obviously you get what you pay for but it would obviously be a bit hurried. I suppose if you go in with 2-3 model options and narrow those down first...then narrow 2-3 shafts down you might be alright. It would really suck if you are just having a bad swing day and spend half the time shanking balls into the G2

Definitely check out the tour van fitting at one of two 2nd Swings here in MN - they are definitely the way to go. I've been through a full bag fitting twice over the past 3 years and they truly delivered an outstanding performance.

They not only have a Foresight GC2, in addition to trackman, but also the GEARS system, which is really cool (Google it if you don't know what it is). They really nailed down my swing and specs and fit me into the best equipment possible. I definitely didn't think I could swing something like a Hzrdus Black or T1100 but they proved it was the right fit for me.. in addition to getting me into some c-taper S flex which was a change from my PX 6.5's I'd always played in the past. No doubt it cut a couple strokes from my game being dialed in. Even the putter fitting was worth it with the laser fitting and high speed cameras to get the proper fit.

If you have any questions about the 2nd Swing tour van fitting feel free to PM me and I can share more. While it's expensive for the full bag ($500) they credit it back to you if you purchase anything and are very easy to work with.

There's no question to it that yes, some of the new technology or drivers may improve distance or ball speed, but none of it is worthwhile until you get fitted and get the exact specs you need dialed in. For any avid golfer who wants to improve, proper fitting is a must.

2nd swing is a good shop. I play a decent bit of golf with a former employee from there and he has nothing but great things to say about the company as a whole.

The used prices are a bit high when you have WRX, but they're a trustworthy golf shop, and they employees just seem like a bunch of guys that like to play golf. I was curious about their tour van fitting, thanks for the info on it. I'm glad to hear they have the technology they do, as well. I never really understood the point in paying a bunch of extra money to get fit on a device that's not really intuitive enough to give a reasonable real life reading.

I had a fitting elsewhere at one point and was told "oh don't worry, you'll hit it even further on the course, these things are always a bit off in distance and ball speed". Okay, great, whats the point? lol

Agree some of the pricing for selling and buying used clubs is a bit off when you have fellow golf lovers here willing to BST, but for their fittings, I've found it to be spot on. They've even done some custom work for me on clubs (hot melt and adding a sight dot) and it was top quality.

I know we all love to tinker with the newest equipment and want to play the tour gear stuff, but without being fitting properly your equipment will never do you justice as it should. They even worked with me on how I wanted my gaps between clubs so we could alter lofts and get the best ball flights I desired.

Went back last night to meet with Bob Bertrand at the Roswell location for the FW/hybrid fitting. Another great experience. I warmed up and he recorded my current yardage gaps then asked what I was looking for from the fitting. He narrowed the initial selection down based on club sound and feel and then we went through 6 or 8 shafts in each, changing weights, head settings, etc. to fill the gaps. Never asked me about buying his recommendations, only that he would put the info for each club in a quote so I'd have it whenever and wherever I decided to pull the trigger.

  • 2 years later...

I did one that was 'free' as part of a promotion. Then nice thing is that they have a bigger collection of shafts available compared to what come in the standard fitting carts, although not quite there with the bigger guys.

More than anything though was how quickly the fitter was able to zero in on what would work for me after trying a couple of the usual suspects. And he did so while we tried some options with an upcharge he tried to stick with the no charge options. I was pleasantly surprised with how it all went.
