Monterey trip April 7-9 going as a single and need help

Too lazy to call the reservation line. Anybody know if one can book a round in advance on Spyglass or Spanish without staying in the resort? I know PB requires a stay to get a tee time more than 24 hours in advance.

I have no problem dropping $500 to play PB, but shelling out a minimum of $695 for a room that I'll be in only to sleep rubs me the wrong way.

I believe you do not. When I called to book a round at Pebble in advance they kept trying to sell me on booking a round at Spyglass or Spanish Bay and then cancel it if I can get on Pebble with a call the day before. So based on a call last week, no resort stay is needed

Hard to argue which is better. They're all great golf courses in their own way. Pasatiempo has great history and obviously a famous course designer. Poppy Hills was a great redo and is different than really anything else in the area, and really enjoyable. Bayonet is obviously well known as a difficult but fair golf course. I think it use to be far more difficult but the changes have made it more playable for sure. I think both the Shore and Dunes are great layouts that will be in fantastic shape and the experience at Mpcc will be top notch. From the clubhouse, service, food, everything is great there. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. If 50 wrx's played them, I think you will several different answers of which one is best.

What does everyone think of the following itinerary:

Saturday:

Fly into sjc

No golf

Sunday:

36 riding af Bayonet & Blackhorse

Monday:

Walk 18 at poppy hills

Tuesday:

Back 9 only at Pacific grove

18 at Pasatiempo (walk w/ a caddy or ride?)

Fly out of San Jose

Looks good to me and you can walk Pasa but there are elavation changes, don't forget to check out Alister's house on #6

Yea I walked pasa (front 9 only) in January. Grabbed a cart on the back. Rain, mud, hail... I'll probably either take a cart or walk w/ a caddy. Does anyone have any experience with taking a caddie at pasa? I believe they are just they guys who work in the pro shop, which isn't a bad thing. Defintely would help w/ green reading

Does the same 24 hour reservation window apply to Splyglass and Spanish Bay if you aren't a resort guest?

No, you can book Spanish Bay 6 months in advance and Spyglass 3 months in advance if not a resort guest.

Thanks again - was able to get early times at Spyglass and Spanish for a few weeks from now. Will be able to do Poppy both afternoons as well. Signed up for the $25 NoCal membership - $100 green fee's versus $225 is a good deal. My last day I'm at Pasatiempo but might call Pebble a day ahead and see if there are any openings - have played both a few times so can't go wrong either way.

Great to hear that you got your tee times at Spyglass & Spanish Bay plus the NCGA rate at Poppy. Remember to call Pebble 24 hours in advance although as you said you can't go wrong with either. September through the end of October usually has good weather.

Have a great time in my neck of the woods.

I heard that anyone can walk on pebble golf course (not playing just for a walk). Is this correct? It has something to do with the beaches in California being public

That's a great question and I don't know if you can walk the entire course without playing. I've walked the road past 2, 16, 6, 14, 15 and then walked the pathway down to 3, 4, 17 & 18, so that's nine holes.

The beaches are public, but the course itself is private (resort) property. The Carmel beach runs along the 9th hole, but beyond that it is a rocky cliff near the 8th teebox and 7th green (Arrowhead Point). 'Not really accessible. There's a beach in Stillwater Cover near the 4th and 5th holes, but I'm not sure if there is public access to it, as it is rather isolated.

How r the caddies at pasatiempo? Any specific ones I should request?

I don't know what caddies are at Pasa but I do know that Pasa does share some caddies with Pebble. You can check to see which caddies loop at both Pebble and Pasa.

When calling PB for a non-resort single slot 24 hours in advance do you call the reservation line or the Pro Shop? Thanks

You can try both if one doesn't work. I've also called Del Monte Golf Course as they can also reserve tee times at any of the Pebble course. Make sure that you get a confirmation email and good luck!

My pleasure! My wife and I were in Carmel today to have brunch at Mission Ranch which is owned by Clint Eastwood. It was a really nice day at 84 degrees and overcast skies. We stopped at Del Monte Golf Course so that I could pick up another one of these limited edition 1 of 500 head covers. So just to make sure I asked again if you can call 24 hours in advance at Del Monte, Pebble Pro Shop or reservations and I was told yes.

Love Mission Ranch. Fun place. My wife and I stayed in one of the cottages overlooking the sheep pasture. Wonderful.

It is a fun place and the foods good! Brunch isn't as fancy as Pebble but we like it, I especially like the Prime Rib, Beef Ribs and Prime Rib Burritos plus the champagne. It's great to sit on the back deck on a nice day with a bite to eat and drinks. Also during brunch the piano player Gennady is fantastic and he's done musical arrangements, conducted or played music for some of Clint's movies including Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, J. Edgar, American Sniper and Jersey Boys. One song that he knows that I'll request every time we're at Mission is the theme song for Charlie Brown.

Which cottage did you stay in?
