I'm a high spin hitter, so I prefer a low spin ball. Feel is paramount! Distance needs to be good, but unless it blows by everyone else out there, it isn't that important.

What matters most to me in a golf ball?

 

The most importantly characteristic for me is consistency. Consistency with distance, spin, and feel. Knowing how the ball is going to perform gives me the confidence I need on every shot. It doesn't matter how much the ball cost, if it doesn't perform consistency, there's no reason to put it in play.

Looks do matter ! A good visual impression is necessary as well as performance, if the brand name, logo, side stamp or numeral are just plain ugly the ball will be dismissed as substandard and rejected.
