To me its all about spin and feel.

What matters most to me is a ball that spins lower off the driver, but still gives me the greenside spin I prefer for my style of short game. Feel is second most important, but I will play a ball that has less feel if it gives the results I'm after. Third would be durability. The better I get, the less I lose balls, but it kills me to pay a premium price for a ball and have it be scuffed and have the skin tearing from a few wedge shots. There's been a couple premium balls I have used that have literally had tears in the skin after one or two holes, and at +/- $4 a ball, it gets me a bit frustrated.

Feel and consistency has to be the top 2. How the ball reacts in the wind is also a factor.

When choosing a golf ball I look for feel on my irons. I like the ability to hit shots low or high and to try and control spin.

Putter feel is also important, I do not like a hard feel with the putter.

Driver spin or lack thereof is not as important to me

I look for stability off the tee. Distance is great, but I favor forgiveness. Greenside I like a soft feel and higher spin rate, but I like a durable "look" to the cover of the ball.

I look for short game spin above all else when it comes to balls. I'd love to say it's price too, but generally, I'm willing to spend a little more to get pro-grade spin around the greens.

The most important characteristic of a golf ball for me is the spin profile and characteristics. I am a high spin player, with a scratch handicap, so I want to be able to know I can control the way a ball spins on every shot I hit. I move the ball up, down, left and right on just about every swing, and I rarely hit just a stock shot on the course. Spin characteristic is big for me.
