Wide Sole Wedges

I have two Sure Outs in the bag and I am sticking with them. MD3's are still in the closet in the back-up bag. I'm well past the honeymoon period at this point.

People don't expect the forged Mizuno S5 wedge to be forgiving but it is. Larger teardrop shape, small cavity for perimeter weighting and a medium to wide-ish sole, at least for Mizuno.

The purists see it as almost a game-improvement wedge and knock it for being a bigger head than the MP-T7, but that is exactly what I like about it. Try a 56 degree with 14 degrees bounce and it will get you out of the sand and retain versatility. Technically not in the wide sole category but escapes the sand like one. I play the Cally MD Forged, but I reserve one spot for a useful trouble wedge and the S5 is it. Pine straw, sand, hard pan, deep grass -- all my usual haunts -- the S5 is the one I go with.

In the true wide soles, the Ping Glide WS is the one I like best. Those are good from multiple situations.

What many of us are trying to point out is that Ping WS is more like a Ping TS then it is like the really wide sole wedges we're talking about in this thread.

I don't see that. They play nothing alike to me. Far more bounce on the WS. The TS sole is 6 degrees vs 14 on the WS.

I don't mean just bounce numbers. Hold a Sure Out or Smart Sole up next to a Glide WS and the literal WIDTH is totally different. The hacker wedges have soles that are huge, plus the bounce angles are pretty high as well.

The Ping WS is for players who want a normal wedge with some extra with and bounce. These other wedges like Sure Out are not normal wedges, you literally can not use them to play some of the shots good players play with a regular wedge. It's like comparing a player's CB iron to a hybrid. The player's CB may be bigger and more forgiving than a blade but the hybrid is a whole other thing.
