Bandon......carry bag or push cart

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

I just got back from a 5 day trip where I rented a cart and pushed for almost all of my rounds.  The only part that was bad for a cart was the stairs on Pac Dunes.  Other than that it was nice to have the push cart.  Someone recommended this in another thread and it was great for having a cup holder and spot to put your phone, flask, etc.

You used this with the pull cart that is at Bandon or did you rent a Clic cart?

How exactly did you attach it to the Riksha?  That gizmo looks like a great idea.

Couple Velcro straps around the handlebars and it rests on the plastic brace. It fits great, almost like it was designed for the rickshaws. I got one a couple years ago, after seeing it somewhere in the NW forum. I wish I could find who originally posted it because they deserve props for it.

Has anyone had any issues using Ship Sticks to ship out their Click Gear push cart ahead of a Bandon Dunes trip?

I am firmly on the fence about whether to ship my push cart or use their rickshaws. I did BD in 2019 for the first time and had the MOST AMAZING time! Of course we used caddies for every round. But now that I'm familiar with everything (except I haven't played SR yet), I am going to save money and go sans caddie. One of the guys in my group will have a caddie, so I'll ask that one about sight lines off tees, etc., if necessary.

Pros for using their rickshaws: saves money, less hassle than shipping my push cart

Pros for my Click Gear: I have an extra storage pouch on mine, so it'll be easier for storage (extra layers, umbrella), and my push cart is kind of my security blanket ha ha. It'll be comforting to have my Click Gear with me.

Cons for any kind of push cart: I remember some parts of PD & BT that were rugged (staircases?) and might be difficult to navigate with my Click Gear or their rickshaws.

I'd love any opinions or feedback you might have. My group is headed out in early April. We're staying in an Air BnB about 20 minutes away. Can't wait to see SR and try to break 80 at all the other tracks. I only did that once last time - 78 at BT. Everything else was low 80s/mid 80s.

Thanks

I love having my own cart there, and as long as it's not one with the tiny wheels, you are fine.  There are a couple places on PD and Trails that are annoying, either from the steepness or the trail conditions, but not really too much of an issue.

Having said that, I am able to drive down with all my gear, so it's not any more work to bring my own cart.  If I were flying in/shipping things, I'd skip it and use the Riksha.  One less thing to have to worry about getting there and back, and the Riksha's are cheap, readily available and roll really nicely on the rough parts of the courses mentioned above.  The main knock on the Riksha's are that they don't have any storage at all.  I would recommend getting one of these, which would cover your water bottle, rangefinder and assorted balls & tees:

Thanks, Spud! My biggest thing, I think, is the storage for layers. But I'm leaning toward thinning out my bag to the essentials, then carry for PD and Riksha it for the other courses.

I've used the Rickshas at Bandon most every time, unless I've gone with a caddie.  Huge fan of the Rickshas, especially where you can roll them across the green which makes a huge difference.  There are only a few spots on the property where a push cart can be cumbersome (between 12-13 on PD, after 13 on BT, and a couple hills on OM).  Even then, I don't think it's that bad at all, certainly not enough to carry versus pushing IMO.
