Wilson Staff equipment - good or bad?

I just went with Wilson staff as my new irons and wedges (and a 3H too)

c300 forged and PMP Wedges (50,56,60).

Tried a lot of clubs but the combination of feel, quality, performance and price landed me with WS.

I already have my eye on my next set - the best looking irons I have ever seen - for some point in the future when I am good enough to hit them consistently - the WS Staff Blades.

Good to know... thank you.

I've just got my C300 forged and REALLY like them so will enjoy them this coming season. Got a great deal on them too.

My game is improving quite rapidly as I am playing/practicing a lot and I'm in the process of having a golf simulator installed at home. So I will be hitting hundreds of balls a day from March onwards. By the end of the year I'd expect to be replacing the irons again and the Wilson blades the #1 target :)

In the early 1900s, some of the top golf club manufacturers included Wilson Staff, MacGregor, and Spalding. These were the "big three" on the pro golf tour until well into the 1980s.

From 1922 to 1999, Wilson Staff players won 58 major golf championships. These golfers included Gene Saracen, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer and Payne Stewart. In 2007-2008, Paidrig Harrington won three majors playing Wilson Staff, and Gary Woodland used WS to win the U.S. Open in 2019.

Wilson help popularize the R-90 sand wedge developed from Saracen's early prototype. Later, Wilson helped Saracen make history when he hit the "shot heard around the world" in the final round of the 1935 Masters: On the 500-yd. Par 5 #15, Saracen sank a fairway approach shot with a Wilson TurfRider 4W for a double eagle. The shot put Saracen in a tie with clubhouse leader Craig Woods, whom Saracen would defeat in a Monday playoff.

Wilson Staff rather lost its way in the late 1900s, and rebounded in prominence circa 2007.

----------------------------

Strangely, I have a tie to Wilson Staff clubs. When I broke 80 the first time in my life - a 77 - I was using Wilson Staff (Model 4300??) 2 Wood (brassie) and 3W and 4W that day. Several years later, I was out in Reno, Nevada. We decided to play golf so I rented clubs. By chance the bag included Wilson Staff woods - and I shot a second 77.

The past few years I have tried the revived Wilson Staff clubs. Definitely decent clubs, but I prefer other models.

Oh.. Well i knew there was a screw but I didn't know nor have I read anywhere that there was any weight screws replacements for it!

EDIT: The screws on the new Utility Iron and the old one isn't the same, don't know if it would fit anyway. Also it should be included when you buy the club, or at least the option to buy them separately. Shouldn't have to buy another whole club to be able to get some weight screws :P

I don't have any of the old weights nor the new Utility Iron (although I'm going to go and test it in the near future), It's just from looking at pictures of both of em. They don't look the same but maybe they have the same dimension and it fits anyways.

Tbh they should just increase the price slightly and then include like 2 extra weight screws. I mean there are drivers like the Titleist 917 that have different weight "tubes" that you can replace so its not like its something new to the market.

Yep - took delivery of a set 4-PW this past weekend.

They look great behind the ball. Not much offset and a good size (not like game improvement slabs, but not quite as intimidating as blades).

They feel very soft to hit and to my ear sound great.

One word of caution - the lofts are very weak. I have gone from a 175 yd 7 iron with GI clubs to 150 with the c300's. Not a problem, but means you need to look at options between 4 iron and 3 wood to close some gaps.

I hit the c300 4 iron about 185-190 and my 3 wood 225 so I bough a 3H for the gap.

Not sure how long they will last - some reports they mark up a lot, but as I only just got then can;t confirm.

I wouldn't overlook the D7 4iron as a driving iron. It's 19.5* and you can order a custom one from the Wilson site for under $90 to your spec. I picked one up and dropped extra $ for the 105 modus pro. It's so easy to hit and solid from all over the face (not a dime sized wear spot guy here) it's comical. If you don't mind offset, it's a weapon.
