Good analysis! And she may indeed finish in the top 5 at this rate. Looks like this is headed for an unexpected winner and could elude Lydia and Brooke.

 

If she somehow pulls this off, it would be equivalent of, in American football terms, coming back from 4 touchdown deficit in the 4th quarter. Consider her best finish this year is T28 and second best finish is T59.

I finally got to watch the 1st round coverage last night. It's weird being a round behind between the time zone difference and timeshifting.

 

I thought the course looked great. The wetlands/marshes looked nice. Did I hear correctly? Was the course farmland before they turned it into a course, implying that the wetlands are man-made? Few people know that Whistling Straits was a flat farm field before Kohler and Dye bulldozed it into The Straits.

 

Used to be potato fields.

Crowds today are great, 80% around Lydia, of course.

Not too much breeze, picking up now.

Saw Brittany Lincicome make birdie on 11, my day complete.

Finally the wind will come to the defence of the course tomorrow with up to 30kmph forecast and the LPGA react by splitting the tee times and the leaders going out at 10:00 local time.

Surely a course like this can take plenty of rain if it falls and the greens aren't fast so not much chance of the ball moving in the wind so why move the tee times, the girls will be done by 14:30 hardly peak viewing for the locals and the Asian tv market.

During the 2nd round coverage they had a short piece on the construction of the course. Yeah, it looks like everything was man made. Because of the drainage, they had to add several feet of soil on top of the field. It looks like it was a fairly large job.

Weather forecasts are not always accurate in a maritime environment. But radar shows rain increasing about 8.30 nd the eye out the window shows it has just started with a light breeze at 7.30. 17 and 18 will be more difficult.

Fyi, they moved the tee times up today due to the inclement weather with split tee start. Last group tees off at 10am Auckland time so all wrapped up within the next 6 hours provided no delays.

Finally called it off for the day as the conditions make play dangerous with advertising signs flying away in the strong gusty winds. They will be back tomorrow morning to finish the tournament off. The forecast is for strong gusty winds again in the morning easing later in the day. All this was not hard to predict as I said back in February when there was a two week time slot to fit this tournament in that in essence they are going to be playing this in winter and its now exactly how the weather is here every year at this time of the year.....

How can officials state they must do everything possible to complete 72 holes even if Monday is used yet 2 weeks ago for the Evian they gave up playing 72 holes on the Thursday.

Be interesting to see how Mozo handles tomorrow, sounds like she has the mindset today's rounds should be scrapped and she as the 3rd round leader should be the winner and not play Monday. That attitude and lack of focus might see her fall away she needs to learn to forget and move on.
