Anyone here use Kuro Kage shafts? I saw the Silver TiNi on sale on CPO and thought it might fit me.

I am bored

I had lunch today with a friend who plays 4 days a week. He even played when it was 12* recently. He's nuts

Going back to my Steelhead XR hybrid and going to finally sell my Epic 4H and XR 4H.

What shafts are in those hybrids? I’m looking for another 4h, since my son took mine.

Stock stiff on both. Recoil ES780 in the Epic and Project X SD in the XR

Epic is 20* 3H, just checked. I have it set on 21. XR is 22*

I have that shaft in my GBB 50G stiff 45.5 I was using a Project X 45G stiff 46.0 I definitely feel I'm more consistent with the Kuro Kage.

What are the odds of another event at Bristow Manor? Or better, Bull Run or Stonewall or something? That was a lot of fun even in the rain last year.

your definition of fun and my definition of fun are very very different. it was like 30* AND raining. i did enjoy the company tho.

still, it's possible that i go back there. DCGT schedule being working on, coming out in february. always wanted to have an event at bull run or stonewall, got any contacts there? PM me.

Bull Run is a great course for a scramble event but man the conditions have been spotty the last few years. I know they've changed owners once or twice but you can either hit them on a really good day or a really, really bad one. Especiallly the greens, I know they've had on again/off again issues with ground wasps. Maybe the most variation in conditions of any course I play in the area.

Fellow dingii, I present to you the new and improved 13th hole at NW.

23p0br.jpg

The changes:

- expand the back tee box forward, and have the front of that box be the new blue tee location.

- cut down a bunch of trees on the left, and plant native grass

- cut down trees along the stream line on the right side of the hole and extend the rough to the stream

- expand the fairway

- add center line bunker to dictate strategy off the tee (it's ~240+ carry from blue, and more from back)

- add tight mown areas right of the green (collection/chipping area), and behind the green (it slopes towards the green back there, so it's like a backstop you could use for approaches and/or play around the greens

- move the cart path

You're welcome.

1) Bump. I'm proud of this fine work.

2) Golf Talk Thursday : List a few of your least favorite golf holes in the area, and let's see if we can come up with interesting ways to make them better.

I was busy arguing about tee boxes yesterday when Fabb posted that.

I like the redesign of NW13. The pot bunker is weird in the middle of the fairway. I could see it down the rough/fairway line on the left, like the left bunkers on 1/2/7 at Worthington. But, I've never disliked that hole as much as some of you guys. I think it was actually a better hole form the red tees where there was a more reasonable "safe" play, but you could also fire something anywhere from 145 to 170 over the trees depending on how much you wanted to bite off or trust yourself to elevate the ball.

TBH, I think I dislike NW14 more than NW13 and also NW16. You literally can't construct more boring golf holes than NW14/&16, although there's a lot of good efforts at it at Rocky Point.

NW14&16, I'd put a tree in the middle in the middle of the fairway. That's my new test for how bad a golf hole is. . .if you can improve the hole by putting a tree in the middle of the fairway, it's a bad hole.

I'm just not a fan of that golf course.

It's not really supposed to be a "pot bunker" per se. It's just a blob I put there to indicate there would be a bunker. The idea was to make you take on carrying something other than just rough if you wanted to shorten the hole. You could narrow the fairway and extend the native grass to force that carry, but I kind of like that the fairway is large and easy to hit short of the bunker for playability. It could be shifted a little right in reality, to give you options to go left/right/short/over.

I think one of the most "fun" additions is adding the tightly mown areas around the green, particularly at the back. You could play some fun shots off that backstop.

I like that idea for 16.

17 would make a fine 4. Try to work one around the corner in order to shorten the hole, but offer the "bail out" left. I like par 4's like that. Like hole 7 at Mt. Pleasant.

I actually dont mind 16 as is, its not great but its certainly not the worst hole there.

I'd shift the tee boxes to the left and throw some church pew type bunkers along the right hand side. I will give them credit over the years they opened up the trees/undergrowth on the right so at least you can pretty easily find any shot that leaks right. But visually I wouldnt mind something else there. Also wouldnt mind cleaning up around the greens and maybe adding a bunker or two.

In terms of DMV county courses though, we're definitely sanding around the edges here. I think NW is still the clearcut #2 track after Laurel Hill.

Speaking of NW, has anyone gone for it in 2 on #6 or has gotten on in 2? That hole to me just seems long as it usually is into the wind or playing from blues still leaves you a good distance away from the green.

There's no real downside in going for that in 2 unless you're concerned about losing it right. I think I've seen plenty of people up near it in 2, mainly bailing out a little left. I don't remember anyone on it in 2 except at the Red Tee.

I don't know if you can move the NW16th tee left. You're pretty quickly encroaching on the 15th. I'd prefer bunkers to help give the hole some shape instead of trees, though.

NW is a boring golf course. It's well conditioned. What else is there to say?

Not worst hole redesign, but Pine Ridge. I'd dump a few million into it to do three things:

1. Remove a lot of trees along the water's edges to open up the vistas. It's a gorgeous plot of land.

2. I'd redo all of the bunkering. Modernize it. Clover leaf RTJ style.

3. Redesign the greens. This would be to provide more contour variation and to fit the new bunkering scheme.

Now it's a top 10 MD course.

Remove a lot of trees everywhere at Pine Ridge so that the rough grows in more uniformly and the trees don't suck all the water out of the course in the fall.

And do some tree removal to improve the vistas.

you all obviously don't live in montgomery county. it virtually requires a special dispensation from the governor to cut down a single tree on public land. and, if it got out, you'd probably get a few dozen protesters on-site crying about how we are savaging mother earth.

we need more derechos.

GTTh: Said it last time we played, but I'd tweak Blue Mash #7 a bit. Only major thing I'd like to see is the little crop of trees on the left taken out so that there is a slight view of the front of the green. Not sure exactly how many trees. Maybe all the ones to the right of the cart path.

Right now you need to hit a perfect draw to get it to that front edge, which is the perfect spot. It feels like a driveable par 4 where it's not possible to put it on the green. I'd still like to see it be penal if you pull or over-draw it, but have enough of a window where a dead straight ball has a chance. Open up the front of the green just a smidge.

Nope. I'll just contract Dan Snyder to get the work done.
