Best AM tour to join?

Just wondering if anyone has a preference on which AM tour is better to join. (golfweek or golf channel)

Have not played Golfweek, but the GC Amtour is strong in your area. The Regional Director is a good guy. Ive played the GCAT for over ten years and its great fun and highly recommended. PM if you have specific questions - glad to help you out.

Anyone doing the GCAT event at TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL? Looks like a popular one as its SOLD OUT already!

It was sold out by 12 noon the day it opened!

I was planning to try it...forgot to login at 0700 - and it was already sold out by the time I checked at ~2 pm.

 

I'm doing Kiawah instead...considered Sea Island - but that weekend is no good for me

I'm a fan of the GolfWeek.

 

Much easier website and layout to navigate. Tons of more local competitions. Everything I've seen for GC seems you have to travel quite a ways or are national tournaments. Plus, the GolfWeek tour is cheaper.

I've played in about a dozen Golfweek events and witnessed a few Golf Channel events at the course where I used to work. So I have a little bit of perspective on both.

 

Golfweek is definitely cheaper (sometimes almost half the cost). There are more players in each flight. And there are more local tournaments to play in.

 

Golf Channel is more expensive but you get a little more of a "show" (better prizes/trophies, more "professional" of a setting). But the flights are often so small that it's just silly, especially for the lower handicap flights. Not uncommon to have literally 3 or 4 guys in a flight, which is kind of lame. Most of the Golfweek events I've played have around 15 in a flight with some tournaments having over 20.

 

And with the Golf Channel, you only have a handful of local tournaments and then everything else is destination tournaments (Pinehurst, Kiawah, Sawgrass, etc.) Definitely cool to have the option to do 1 or 2 of those each year but not feasible for most people to do much more than that. And the Golfweek tour has started doing more of those (I know they have Bandon on the schedule for this year among others).

 

I would lean toward Golfweek but each of them has their advantages.

 

OP -- if you're in NC, have you checked out the CGA one-day events? They are very well run (just wish there were more of them; they seem to be going more toward fourballs these days).
