TPC Tampa Bay??

Bones.

Recommended Posts

I'll be in Tampa the later part of this week and was looking to play golf on Thursday.

I'm not really feeling like I can make the drive to Streamsong, and I was looking at TPC Tampa. What kind of shape is it in? Worth the price tag right now? Are there better courses in the Tampa area that are better quality for the value?

It's usually in great condition, but it's not much of a golf course in my opinion and way over priced.

Where in Tampa are you going to be?

Fox Hollow in Trinity is about 30 minutes away and a decent price.

Innisbrook is 40 minutes, but pricey.

World Woods is the best deal, but it's an hour away from TPA.

I'll be near the airport.

Not really looking to drive an hour, although if I find I have to the time to do that I'll probably go for SS.

Tpc tampa is nothing like the valley course or tpc sawgrass Ponte Vedra. At best it’s a middle of the road country club style course.

Best price and course would be World Woods. But I would hit SS just to play the new black course there.

Streamsong Black may be booked out. Red (Coore Crenshaw) is great, Blue is too.

Pine Barrens @ World Woods is excellent, Rolling Oak @ World Woods just a step below (that's a matter of personal preference - some may think otherwise).

TPC Tampa Bay isn't anything special, IMO - not a bad course, but I'd rather stay @ Innisbrook & play Copperhead.

Streamsong Blue is still worth the trip.

I'll be in Tampa in a couple weeks and was only able to get on Streamsongs Blue course. I was really hoping to play both the Red and Black. Is it still worth the drive or should I try Innisbrook or something else?

I wouldn't walk across the street to play Streamsong Blue or Copperhead. I think they're both over-priced and under-performing.

Most people I know who have played the Black, hated it. I haven't played it, so I don't have an opinion on it.

To be honest, I'm now a member at TPC Tampa Bay and play there a lot. It's got the best membership deal around and for the money can't be beat at all considering the time to drive to get there.

But i happen to play with a lot of out of towners there. And most out of towners like it a lot. it's in excellent shape right now, greens are moderately fast and good condition, 15 is only one that is not fantastic. it's nothing special with respect to the other courses mentioned, certainly. But it's a solid course that has decent conditions and really no tricky holes. but it can be tough. The rough is true bermuda and i've seen it cause lots of players trouble, including several pros that i've played with in the last 2 months. Generally very longish hitters find it somewhat easier.

Nothng fancy for sure, yet for 10 years, it had 4 holes rated in the top 15 toughest on the senior tour, including #1. So it has some decently tough holes and the rough at times can be brutal if they haven't cut it for a while.

Yes its seriously grossly overpriced but if you go to the website there are deals that make it better, sometimes even decent price considering the course.

That said, World Woods, is definitely superior courses and better for the money. They are probably the best courses for the money (or very close) certainly in florida and maybe in the country. Great value and excellent courses.

Streamsong Red and Blue are both overpriced but well worth playing once, definitely. I just played Streamsong Black and it's a joke. Almost unplayable from a cart. Greens that are huge wtih ridiculous pin placements. Even my caddy admitted they were stupid in some places. And he was the caddy playing champ on the caddy tournament at the end of the season.

Innesbrook is also seriously overpriced. it's a long drivers course but nowhere near the course that World Woods or Streamsong are. Its real claim to fame is the PGA tournament there.

Fox Hollow has had condition issues and if it's rained recently its a swamp. It is a reasonably strong course though. I've heard rumours that it's had financial difficulties recently - whether that's true or not i can't say. i haven't played there is some time due to a major disagreement with them and their violation of ADA rules and willful ignoring them. If you can't walk well, they don't want you there. I've been told that by an assistant pro. So I'll freely admit that i'm somewhat predujiced there.

I was a member at Fox Hollow for 5 years and not only left the club, but moved ... all due to their drainage issues. Unfortunately, they have no control over the drainage. They're building another 20,000 units of housing in Trinity and the drainage for most of those developments, doesn't function as designed. Fox Hollow is "below" most of the housing, so the water ends up there.

I'm shocked to hear you had an ADA issue with them. One of the best players at Fox Hollow, plays on 1 leg and Fox Hollow's most prestigious tournament, is a Veteran's tournament, many of who have challenges. Have you talked with Brian or Dave about whatever the ADA issue is?

They may be having some financial issues, but it would surprise me if it's related to the golf course. The Creighton's have made plenty of money, although they may have tax issues, related to Dave Sr.'s death.

Streamsong Red - the best course anywhere near Tampa

Streamsong Blue - is second

World Woods Pine Barrens is third

I have now played Streamsong Black twice and I don’t hate the course what so ever- that being said you need to prepare yourself for the greens. They are at best non- traditional. Streamsong Black could possibly be the best course at Streamsong minus 5 of their greens- the 5th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th. Some would argue that I should add the 9th which is a punch bowl design modeled after Prestwick’s Alps hole, but I would keep that green as it is. The rest- I would suggest mellowing a bit. Some have told me that the course will soften and it won’t be as severe- I have some doubts to those comments.

Streamsong Black and Pine Barrens are very close in my book. The holes minus the few greens I mentioned, are certainly better than Pine Barrens.

Played TPC, Both WW courses and SS Black a few weeks ago and Couldn’t remember a single whole at TPC. It was blah and burned out as well.

I really liked black even though it seems most don’t. It’s a fun course that doesn’t play like anything else you’ve ever played. Wide fairways make it very playable and also challenging.

WW, as everyone has said, is some of the best golf for the money in the country. Love Pine Barron’s and the course was in fantastic shape.
