Brands You Won't Play

Show us on the doll where Karsten Solheim touched you ;-)

Haha. I sent Ric Flair out to deal with him.

So Ping sent a "secret shopper" out to a very private golf course just to bust them for $10 ? Something tells me there's more to the story.

No, they really do this. I got my account suspended/pulled for discounting a wedge $5 many years ago to a PING secret shopper. And I know of a $60,000 a year in club sales account that got pulled for discounting PING clubs. That being said, PING is one of my favorite companies to do business with, even with the iron fist rule of not only their advertising price, but what you also sell clubs for. Keeps everything more even between large and small accounts.

I’ll third that. My club stopped carrying ping after an argument over a $100 discount to a member in a set of ping G20 ( or 25 I’m not up on Their numbering systems ) that had been on the rack for 6 months. They found out when that member called to buy a 4 iron and after getting the price questioned it citing what he paid for the rest of the set.

They are crazy about it. And yet titleist claims to be and will sometimes drop off over runs , old models new in plastic or logo balls for penny’s on the dollar to our club to sell. I guess ping just throws out old unsold models instead of discounting ?

I don't play anything else then Ping.

I'll never touch another Ping product in my life. One of the courses I play at lost their account for selling a Ping driver for $10 below what they were supposed to sell it for. The Pro doesn't advertise he just sells everything for a certain percentage over wholesale and it worked out that for the G400 it was $10 below what he was supposed to sell it for and a secret shopper came in, bought one and reported him.

He's had an account with Ping and it was his #1 seller for over 20 years. If Ping is willing to destroy a 20+ year relationship over $10 it's not a company I'm willing to support by buying their equipment. I've carried a Ping bag since I was a kid (never really played their clubs) and now there is a Callaway bag in my trunk and a Ping bag in my garbage can.

Long story short, I'm good at holding a grudge so Ping is a brand I will never play.

Same thing happened at my club right after I joined and get this....... the Ping rep was a member and the entire club played Ping. It was like nothing I had ever seen. We incorrectly priced a wedge from last season, they sent a secret shopper and suspended the account.

Unbelievable!

Looks like I'll be staying away from Ping, also. This kind of thing does the consumer no favors.

I don't know how you can say that. They are doing consumers a huge favor, because of their policies you see Ping club values hold higher than most brands.

I don't care about resale value; I don't sell my clubs. It only does the resellers of Ping clubs favors. Those that buy new and used Ping clubs pay an artificially-supported higher price for those clubs.

Once you become a seller, you're no longer a consumer.

Being a true WRXer and club ho, somehow I never had any desire to touch any Ping clubs. The no furrel look and that notch just don't work for my eyes... So much so that I am even embarrassed to have a Ping peddle grip on a TM putter that I was messing with.

Would never really consider playing a titleist driver, don’t like the shape and are better options. Callaway wedges, hate the shape. Ping irons only because of the notch, actually like the looks of iblade and i500 otherwise. Taylormade irons(up to this point) other than the p730 which I could only get away with up to 7 or 8i anyway.

Mizuno drivers -- I can't stand the look. How does a company make the most elegant irons and yet ... woods like that?

Hats with manufacturer names.

That's odd. I've always liked Mizuno drivers, at least since the MP600, & never understood why so few people play them.

I wanted to play the JPX 900 this season. I tried a bunch of loft adjustments and weight locations but just found it to spin too much for me. Really disappointing because it looked really nice behind the ball. Not because of the look but because of the spin, I'll have to add Mizuno woods to my list of clubs that won't get gamed.

Option 1

Callaway Mac Daddy Forged 60
Toulon Garage Atlanta Black Pearl
Ping 4 Series Tour Edition White/ Bridgestone 2014 Tour Bag

Option 2

Did you take a look at the GT180 or ST 180? I'm not a fan of the blue color, but the head shape was nice & I think they had enough adjustability to get the spin rate down for you.

Simply visual preference. They look busy to me, and very tech-y (especially in comparison to their irons). Performance-wise, I'm sure they're great.
