ChampionsGate Resort

Hi all,

I am heading down to Orlando 1-4 of March and we are staying at the ChampionsGate Resort. Just me and the wife, and will be playing on the resort courses. I have been reading through the forum and see that nobody rates either of the courses too highly, why is that? Problems with conditioning?

I see ChampionsGate Country Club is highly rated by all, so if the resort is a complete dud I can at least go there!

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

The resorts are okay. They use to be well maintained and worth it but now they are hit and miss with conditions (mostly miss as of late) and the new Championsgate CC is just a really nice (new) well maintained course. The CC is open for public play. Definitely play the CC. There are so many good courses in the area you will be that you could always get to town and once you get to the resort go check out the courses at the resort and see if they are in good shape and if not go to other local courses that are always well maintained like Orange County National, Grand Cypress, Southern Dunes...etc. You should not have any issues getting out just be prepared to pay premium fees as you will be in the heart of peak season and all rates are jacked this time of year.

I agree with what sirpar said. If you're staying at the Omni, Championsgate resort is super convenient. The practice areas and putting greens are excellent, service and staff are very good, they have a good proshop and a nice bar/lounge setup. I wouldn't say the two courses are terrible, but there are a lot of better options not far away. The courses aren't usually in bad shape, they are just so-so and not that memorable. For convenience and experience they get a good score, but for quality of the golf course specific experience, you can do a lot better.

I played there about 4 years ago in March. I believed I played the International course. I thought it was ok. I remember small greens. They were building a new 18 at the time so areas round the course were ugly due to the construction. I wouldn't pay no more than $75 to play.

That new 18 is what is now the Championsgate CC which borders the resort property but is its own entity.

The International course is okay. Better if you play it a few times. But very overpriced for what you're getting and at times can be nearly impossible to play well there if the wind is blowing hard.

The National course is a little more reasonable, but super narrow greens. I've never seen greens so narrow like the National course before. With the Country Club right next door, it's a far superior design and that's why nobody recommends to play the resort courses over the country club.
