2018 - Chrome Soft X vs Tour B XS

Recommended Posts

Anyone compared / tested these 2 balls

Played 5 rounds with the new 2018 CSX ball in Florida and was blown away by the action both off the Driver as well as the spin and control with the short irons and softness off putter

Miles better than most of the others I have considered

Wondering now about the new Tour B XS - purports to achieve similar results with new construction, compression and skin - not a lot out there in reviews

Looking for experiences and views on these 2 in particular

appreciated

I would like to hear some thoughts on these two as well. I have been chipping and putting on my indoor green but living in Michigan I am still a couple weeks away from hitting the course. Based off of the indoor green I like Chrome Soft X and Q Star Tour the best for putting, they have a better feel for me. The XS feels a little dull to me, not as crisp feeling like the others. That might change once I hit the real greens.

My short list to test include

Tour B XS

Chrome Soft X

Q Star Tour

Dr: TSi3 10 Ventus Red 6s

F: TS2 16.5 Ventus Red 7s

H: 915h 18 and 24 diamana s+

I: P770 5-PW Steelfiber i95s

W: MG3 49, 54, 58 dg115

P: Scotty Cameron Flowback 5.5 w/      custom CT Tour shaft (custom red, white, blue paint fill with stars & stripes headcover)

B: BX / TP5X

I think you are finding out not many play Bridgestone Tour level balls. The online reviews I have watched or read have been favorable. There are just so many good balls from “more popular” companies that people reach for before they think about Bridgestone.

There’s some reviews on here of the XS. I loved it in every way except when the wind blew. Not sure why but it was really affected by the wind, for me. Didn’t seem like that was the case for everybody though. Felt amazing off the putter. I like the CSX too. I played one ball for 27 holes (no lost ball passive brag....lol) last Sunday and it still looked pretty good at the end of the day. It’s firmer than the XS and doesn’t spin as much which would make sense. It’s long too, but I don’t think it’s any longer than the XS.

I ended up with the XV promo deal, but that was more price driven and i knew i liked that ball just as well.

Hope that helps, but probably just confuses everything more!!

Hey Morry...I been playing the XS...love it..i am getting older (60) and have an ego problem..I hate losing distance off the tee..I bought a dozen XS's and gave them a whirl...right off my playing partners noticed a big distance gain in driver strikes..man, when you hit'm..they go!...my swing speed is right at 100mph...the only "beef" i got with them is they seem a little hard and heavy on iron shots...they stop great and perform well, but i picked up on the feeling of hitting a heavy rock..I am a Titleist guy. I use the NXT Tour S yellow..they are soft and go a long way..but no where as near as long as the XS's...I am playing on the VGA tour now, and have selected to play with the XS's...i'm gonna try to work thru the "rock" feeling.

I think I may also have had this feeling but with another ball. That’s the first thing I noticed about the TP5 is that it felt heavier and denser than other balls. Not so much the “rock” feeling you talk about as they were not hard like a topflight or something, just felt heavy off the club. Never had that sensation with the XS, but obviously everyone is different.

You should also check out the B RX. Have been using the CS X for the past 6 months and just today tried the RX. Longer and straighter off the tee and plenty of spin on the 7i and down. Firm feel off the putter, very similar to the CSX to me. Also extremely durable as it looked almost brand new after 18 holes. Can not say the same for the Callaways.

Shot my best round in months with the RX today and will be sticking with for a while.
