Monte and Dan, need some wedge help

Any thoughts on the Mizuno T7’s? Comparisons to the Vokey V grind?

Not even close. The V grind has to be seen in person. The bounce angle listed, how they measure it, won’t be represented in the number given. They measure the leading edge to the trailing edge, essentially ignoring the high peak in the middle.

The V digs less yet lays open better than the Vokey D grind even though the D has “more” bounce the way they measure it. Side by side it’s obvious which one really has more bounce.

Would V grind be a good choice for kikuyu grass. Drives me nuts I practice mostly on poa, then play a lot on kikuyu and it takes me awhile to get more precise.

Imo it’s great everywhere. It’s extremely versatile and forgiving which is why I like it

Well I was about to pull the trigger on a Vokey D-Grind 58 degree when I saw this thread. By chance checked the Bay and found an Oil Can 58 degree V-Grind in seemingly very good shape for a decent price- especially with a 15% app coupon running, so I bought it.

I'm kind of steep, like to open the face and lower the handle when lobbing, and play (when I do play) often in wet conditions so should be perfect. I've also taken a couple of on-line lessons with Dan and trust his judgement.

I plan on reshafting with a Steelfiber i110 CW as I'm going all graphite, but noticed Kuro Kage 105 Vokey wedge shaft pulls come up sometimes for sale, anybody had any experience with that shaft?

I changed my mind about the D.., it blows. TVD was way better.

That's what she said.

How is the V out of the sand vs the K? The K is great out of bunkers

Don’t know about the V.... recently switched from a TVD K to the D and the only way I can describe it as “heavy” through the turf. Can’t seem to spin it nearly as much. Was playing around today with a buddies S and even that grind had better turf interaction than the D imo.

Good example of how you can't make something out of nothing. The wedge on the right can never look like the one on the left (and the right wedge has "more" bounce)

Yeah I know. I'm just disappointed the 58 TS can't be ordered 2 degrees weak and essentially not giving a mid-fifties degree loft design like Titleist is giving on the V grind. The best club fitter around me won't try it since Ping doesn't give the option. I guess I just need to quit being cheap and break down and do 58 and 54 in the V and order both 1 degree weak since playing the TS in 60 and a V in say 54 could likely lead to gapping issues on full shots since their from two different OEM's.

I thought I'd follow up for anyone reading this thread and considering this. I called Club Champion and they said they can bend the Glide 2.0 TS 2 degrees either way. Of course I found this out after I have a 58 Vokey V Grind ordered 1 degree weak...

What's are the best or better bunker wedge grinds? I use to be fine with a full grind high bounce 60deg with custom heel relief out of shallow bunkers, but now I'm at a new course and need to hit high shots more often than not.

The cleveland rtx-3 I believe comes standard with their version of the V grind. I have it on my 58* and it's solid.

I still use the old Cleveland DSG/RTG wedges that have a similar "V" type grind and they work great for these type of shots. They open up nicely as well! I'm hoarding them. I fear I won't get along with anything new

I love my DSG's out of bunkers of all sorts. If it's packed or hard, I use the 58*. Deep and fluffy, 54/56* depending on which I'm carrying. I can't speak for other V grinds, but I assume they perform similarly

Thanks for responding! Do you know what the measured bounce on the V is?

10* from leading edge to trailing edge. But that’s ignoring the large peak in middle of sole.

Here is V grind vs a 14* bounce wedge

Dan does the sole on the RTX3 60/9 wedge look like it would perform well with your technique? Thanks

That one will work fairly well. Won’t be as versatile when laid open but fine for majority of shots

I happened across a Cleveland Forged 588 DSG/RTG sitting in the used bin at the local Edwin Watts today. 56/08 and in great condition. So, I hopped back into the back, bent it a hair, and now I have a raw, forged 58/10 wedge with a heckuva "V" grind, all for a great price! This will be the first time that I have played around with a "V" grind that has more than 4 degrees of bounce, so I'm pretty excited to see what I can do with this.

As stated above, I love these wedges. I've come by some new ones from Dallas golf (also their ebay listings) over the last year or so for super cheap ($40). They had the chrome version, which I don't like as much as the raw RTG version, but being brand new cancels that out by a mile.

@iteachgolf is there a difference between post 21 and post 28? The gray V grind seems to have significantly more peak bounce than the oil can one. Are they newer/older versions of the same model club?
