Unskilled golf mom trying to buy clubs for teenager

Looking to purchase new clubs for my undersized(5'2), 13 year old son. He is primarily a baseball player but he does play golf 8-10 times after the season ends. I read through all the of the equipment threads and I was so overwhelmed by all of the information. I have always purchased him the US Kids Golf Clubs and they have worked fine although he has never had a driver in his bag. I was thinking of purchasing the Ping Thrive set so I can just be done with it. ($500) I really just need something to get him through the next 2 summers and I don't think he will grow more than 2 or 3 inches before next summer. I've also looked at the USKids UL63 7-Club set.($300) I just feel too overwhelmed by the thought of taking him somewhere to be fitted for clubs and I'm sure it would end up costing me a ton more. I appreciate any advice.

I see you are from Iowa ... there are 2 excellent golf stores in Des Moines if you are in the central part of the state that can help you out.

If you can't get local help, I would go the USKG route given your description of your son's golf. If you look on the USKG Outlet section, they do have some good deals. I'd go with the 63" set based upon his current height and projected growth.

Can't go wrong with this set if he is only playing 8-10 times a year. You could also check out your local Play it Again Sports or similar outfit and save a few hundred dollars potentially. I wouldn't go with the Ping, Callaway, or Cobra sets. Not good for the money. Stick with US Kids, or get fitted IMO.
