Getting to Lahinch from Connemara

Planning a golf trip by car around Ireland (which is strictly speaking not in the UK but anyway...) and I want to play both Connemara and Lahinch but notice that getting from one to the other seems to require going through Galway and traffic etc. Is there a ferry or other way to traverse Galway Bay more quickly?

Depending on how much time you have, that routing may be more trouble than it's worth. I dunno though as I'm going for the first time later this summer.

I checked Tripadvisor, and they report no such ferry across Galway Bay. I also just looked at Google's suggested route, and it doesn't seem all that bad. Sure, you'll see some traffic, but Galway isn't a big city like Dublin. I've never played Connemara, but Lahinch is certainly with the effort to play. Where else are you thinking about playing?

The plan is to play Ballyliffin, then South to Donegal, one of Enniscrone, Sligo or Strandhill , across to Connemara and then down to Lahinch and beyond. I just thought a ferry ride across Galway Bay would be nice. Any thoughts on the choice between EC, SL and SH?

a couple of years I stayed in Enniscrone, at the Waterfront Hotel, and played Enniscrone and Carne in Belmullett. Those two courses had the most dramatic dunes of any place I've ever played, very much worth a play. I haven't played wither Sligo or Strandhill, can't comment on those. We loved Ballyliffin, played both courses there, and loved the little town too. Have a great time!.

I enjoyed Enniscrone a couple of years back and the road is along one or Ireland's 'more major' roadways so not so narrow. Lahinch is great and well worth the effort. We just drove the Galway area and as long as you stay on the 'M's or "N's', I believe, its not bad driving. mk

In the end we played Connemara on a Sunday morning and just loved that course. Wide open and exposed to the Atlantic breeze. the course is an excellent test although very demanding physically. We walked of course but limped home after battling the wind. After a bowl of chowder we the headed for Lahinch at about 330 and naturally no ferry so had to go the long way around Galway which was fairly heavy traffic for like half an hour but then went across the Burren, a spectacular landscape, and were in Lahinch by about 7pm for dinner at O'Looneys a great seaside pub/restaurant.
