Butch Harmon - keeping arms in front of chest

In front is not a term I use.  Not trailing is what I use.  You can make a pretty definitive measure on that.

How do you define "not trailing"?

I guess I consider "in front" to be my hands not outside my trail shoulder at the top (or ever)

It's an interesting point.

I want to like that Bradley Hughes video, but it drives me nuts when these guys demonstrate a move with a position that they're simply not in in their swing (ie - BH moving his hands out so high in front of him like he's going to hit a ball that's sitting waist high).

That Clement video perfectly addresses this thread's topic, imo. Thanks for posting it.

I worked on this today, and it was extremely helpful.  I tend to get too long in the backswing with my arms pinned across my chest, then my arms and the club are stuck behind me and I have to find a way to square up the club face.  I am left-handed, so my swing thought was to keep my left elbow from going past the seem on the left side of my shirt.  It felt like an abbreviated swing, but my contact was more consistently straight compared to draw/hook that I struggle with.  I need to keep working on this, but initial results are promising.

It's a winner IMO.  One of the cornerstones of a simple, repeating swing.

When I deviate I am much less consistent

Here’s the one that really works for me.

At any point of the backswing, I should be able to turn and face my hands, and my hands should be in front of my chest.  That is what is demonstrated in the link.

I knew it would be Porzak before I even clicked the link.

FYI, he just released a really high-quality master class video series, and the FB group connected with it is off to a good start. The dude is an excellent instructor and communicator, and has a stable full of elite juniors, D1, and KF players in SD. Guessing he'll land or develop a Tour player before long.

His primary full swing focus is "connection," as defined by keeping the arms in front of your chest.
