Best Driving Iron 2018

I have experience with the 790, and the TMB.

 

The 790 is in my bag with DG X100. Makes ball go boom with a forgiving face.

I put the Srixon U65 18 degree 2 iron in play, had it re-shafted with a DG X7 and i have found a unicorn for myself. Super accurate and long with a nice penetrating ball flight.

 

I have a U65 as well as a 3i replacement and am very happy with it. I am thinking of replacing my 2 hybrid with a second U65.

I went with the P790 UDI with a Tensei Blue shaft in it. I wasn’t a fan of the TMB and the Mizuno Fli Hi was a little too bulky looking for me. The P790 is great though, exactly what I’m looking for in a 2 iron

P790 UDI for me, have an AD DI 95x in it, thing hits lasers.

I'd be concern with reducing almost 4* of bounce and offset?

 

I have my 900T bent a degree strong to 20*.

 

I just picked up a 790 at 17* and that thing is almost as long as my 3 wood; easily kicked out my U45. Has good feel as well and I can swing as hard as I want with it.

 

I play the MP-64's full set with the PX 6.5s and loved my 3 iron but wanted a driving iron. I had the 3 bent to 17.5 degrees, threw a little lead tape on the sole for feel, and put in a px 6.0 shaft.

 

It is amazing. Mainly play it off the tee, but I can hit it off the deck as well. If you don't need the 3 iron distance in your gapping, and don't like the "clunky" look of a lot of driving irons, this is a good solution.

 

I still want to hit a driving iron, and see what kind of distance/flight difference it produces but for now I have a hard time going away from the set up I made...

 

The reality is that those kinds of precise differences don't make that much of a difference to amateur golfers...now if you're making a career out of golf you'd need that kind of precision.

 

So unless your having your whole bag fitted and then pured, then going out and trying to shoot 64 for a living I wouldn't worry too much about altering a bit of bounce and offset. Especially since it is a club you hit off the tee most of the time anyway.

 

I am in that amateur category where it isn't affecting my scores....

Just took my older maltby KE4 tour HDI out to the range today to knock the dust off of it. Had fun and hit it well so it’s going back in the bag (I only carried 13 clubs anyway this summer). Built it with a project x 5.5 shaft. Just straight bullets all day. Not a 2018 model, but fun nonetheless.

I also have a U65 3i - got it custom fit with the Mitsubishi OTI 105x. Favourite club in the bag.

I just got a 718 TMB which looks great. Seems I just forgot I don’t have the swing speed to hit it anymore. It shall be hitting the classifieds soon probably lol. Great stick, I just need a hybrid or 5 wood
