Course, membership, amenities, culture?

Not a member but have played it numerous times since our club reciprocates with them. Wife is actually playing there tomorrow and Friday in a ladies member-guest.

- The course is short and pretty tight. It will make you hit your driver straight. Also has enough elevation to keep it interesting. The greens are bermuda and typically are on the fast side. In fact, they can get really fast at times. Lots of people don't like it because of how tight it is but I think it is a fun course to play and wish I could play it more often.

- According to Avid Golfer magazine, initiation is $2,500 and monthly dues are $363. I'm pretty sure they have a plan for unlimited cart usage but don't know the cost. It could be included in the $363 for all I know.

- Has a nice restaurant, workout center, swimming pool, and tennis courts. I think they have a pretty active tennis membership.

- As far as culture, they have a little bit of a reputation of having a "party" culture.

1st hand experience here, beware the private equity group which owns it and other courses in Texas and across the U.S. IMO, they are all about revenue and profit and have no idea what they are doing with their golf portfolio.

Interesting. I had forgotten about talking to members there and hearing that they weren't exactly thrilled with the ownership. What private equity group owns it?

  • 1 month later...

I am a member here and most of what North Texas said is spot on, I will say the greens are usually excellent for bermuda and the course is in awesome shape right now, it seems like they are spending money to keep it in nice shape, they just redid all of the bunkers over the winter. When I joined they were doing a special with 500 buck initiation and i pay right at 300 bucks a month, I am 28 though so i am in on the young executive deal or whatever they call it, if you are over 40 it will be a little higher. It is a fun track but it is short and tight and can get frustrating as there are several fairways that are extremely precarious to keep your ball in but it is a fun test. I joined last fall sight unseen as it is pretty convenient to my office and it was a good deal, at first i was disappointed but i have been really impressed with how the course has come around this year. As far as the membership and atmosphere is concerned I honestly dont know, I joined and then found out like 2 months later that i would be moving in a few months so i have not really embraced the club very much, i go play golf and thats about it.

If you are looking for somewhere to join in the area and dont mind a drive, there is a club in Anna called Hurricane Creek, I was a member there before El Dorado and it is the best kept secret in DFW, it is a phenomenal track and they have bent greens that are always in fantastic shape and it was cheaper than El Dorado. They also have a badass practice area they just built a couple years ago.

If I did have one complaint about El Dorado, the range sucks out loud, they use restricted flight balls and they are well past their expiration date, most barely have any dimples left on them and you are almost always hitting off matts. I dont regret joining El Dorado but if i wasnt moving in 2 weeks I would probably be looking for another spot to join, i would probably go back to Hurricane, it was just to far out for me at the time.

Let me know if you have any questions.
