If any of you are in Wilmington, NC, I highly recommend playing the local muni, aptly named "Wilmington Municipal Golf Course" or "Muni."

 

I teed off at 7:35 am and played in two hours and ten minutes. The course, an old Donald Ross built in 1926, is in fantastic shape. It was 35* when I teed off and 46* when I walked off 18, but it was an amazing day for golf.

 

Shot 87 after lipping out six putts. Was home before 10:30.

So far, I'd say this as interesting as a normal PGA event. No more, no less. Their bets aren't doing much for me. The innovative production methods they were hyping are pretty much the same production methods they normally use. Which isn't a bad thing, I just don't get why they were hyping that part of it.

 

Sir Charles' side bet with Verlander was just more amusing than any of the bets Phil and Tiger have made so far.

A lot of the stats they are showing are completely uninteresting. Every hole, Tiger is 25% +/- 3% to win, Phil is 25% +/ 3% to win, and they are ~50% to halve. One or the other made 1-3% more birdies or bogeys in the computer simulation.

 

No one cares that Tiger made 1% more birdies in a computer simulation on the 11th hole. That's one of the least interesting things I've ever heard about golf.

The greens look awful. I know they will have rolled them enough that they play fine. But you would think for a big tv event they could wait until after.

If they continue to do matches in this "series", there needs to be a designated person that comes up with potential bets in advance as suggestions, and has the players' conversion percentages in front of him. Like when Tiger had the 45 footer on the first par 3, assume he three putts 1/15 times from that distance. Someone in real time should suggest to Phil that he bet Tiger $5k that Tiger three-wiggles, at 5-1 odds or something (or whatever the math roughly checks out to). But you can't really expect the players to come up with interesting ones like that while also concentrating on playing golf.

For a particular hole, do they look at driver tendencies or just go by historic birdie/par/bogey percentages for that length hole?

I never noticed just how fast Tiger is once he gets over the ball. He's slow ("methodical") up until he steps up to it though.

Tiger's putt on the last playoff hole was barf-worthy. He actually hit a lot of putts short and low.
