How does one get a GHIN number if you don't belong to a club and want to track your handicap?

I started using the Grint at the end of July. Why pay when you don’t need to. :)

I would start by calling your local State Golf Association to obtain options through them.

Just ask at a course you play at. They should be able to add you in. It'll cost about $30.

You cannot sign up for GHIN as an individual, you have to be a member of a club, which in turn is associated with a regional association that uses GHIN. That could include a men's club at a public golf course, for instance. Services like the Grint can set you up as a member of an internet-based club (a Type 3 Club per the USGA Handicap Manual) if you want a valid USGA Handicap. I don't know if there's a cost associated with that. If you don't care about having a real USGA handicap, you don't need to be a club member, and there are a number of online services that will track your handicap for free.
