Want To Buy Section - Are people just wasting others time ?

My hit rate for closing a deal with a WTB ad originator is probably 5% but a couple of them are still in contact with me and have even bought other things later. If 5% isn’t worth your time, ignore the WTB.

I try to be pretty specific when I post something on the WTB section. For example - specific lengths, conditions, etc.. Sometimes I'll even add not to message me if it doesn't meet what I am looking for. I don't want to waste my time or anyone else's time if the item doesn't meet the specifications I am looking for. If someone has what I'm looking for at a fair price, great! If not, I'll just buy it new or move on. I've been on the other side of things when you message someone looking for an item only to get the response (if I get a response at all): "I actually need that at XYZ length and flex AND only dipped in unicorn tears".. You know, not mentioned anywhere in their WTB post.

Yeah happens all the time, no idea why. It seems like they should say "I want to buy this but at 40% of what i've seen it posted for everywhere else" because that seems to be the goal. I'm in a Bettinardi group on Facebook and see a lot of Want to Buy posts and you send them a message with the item and price that it regularly sells for and they just read and never respond lol.

I replied to one yesterday with exactly what he was looking for. Haven't heard a thing from the guy. Oh well!

Posted WTB on 7/11 for Ping driver shaft. Member here replied stating he has a shaft I am looking for. I sent him a PP on 7/11 - he sent me a tracking number a week later. USPS site says label created, but item not dropped off. This guy stopped replying to my private messages. What should I do?

You need to report him to mods pronto and ask them how to proceed. If it were me, after contacting mods I’d file a PayPal dispute and start a thread in this forum to put the user on blast and warn others about them. Hopefully you paid with goods & services.

Answered a WTB ad last week, sent pictures, negotiated a fair price, sent PP info and now nothing. Sent another message asking if he still wants the grips and he said yes but crickets again.

I would rather use the bst and wtb than to use eBay. Too many screw ups on there and I don’t want the hassle. The bst and wtb are far easier than eBay and that’s why I prefer it. Plus a lot of times eBay sellers will wait a few days to a week then use ups so there’s another week. I still use eBay for mower parts and hard to find car parts but that’s a last resort option.

 

I agree that a response either way to your offer to their wtb ad should be given. Common courtesy.

yes, uncertain why anyone posts a want and ignores responses. Ive been tempted to post a WTB in the past but decided against it thinking no one would take it seriously because those that do seem to just disappear

Don’t write off the WTB just because a few inconsiderate delta bravos can’t do it right. It’s a great resource when searching for specific hard to find items, or if you have some stuff you’re not using and don’t want to go through the trouble of posting a BST ad. Just be aware that you may have to deal with a lot of unanswered messages. Nothing lost but a small bit of your time, and some respect for the unresponsive member.

There’s also a bunch of people (generally newer members, or members who don’t participate in the forums) who think the WTB is Goodwill, and you should be just giving them your unused stuff like it’s a charity. Again, a simple thanks but no thanks, and nothing lost but some time.

My favorite is when someone creates a post in the WTB section for a club that I have, and I contact them stating, yep - here ya go I have EXACTLY what you are looking for, and I attach a picture and a price I’m looking to get. So, pretty much how this is suppose to work, right?

 

Then they’ll reply :

 

‘Great, will you trade it for a sleeve of used Top Flights, a left handed chipper, a half eaten pb&j sandwich, and a baby shark Headcover?’

 

Smh. Love it!
