Nashville....FEB

So looking for some locals weather feedback

 

A few friends and I discussed trying to hit up Sweeten Cove and a few of the better courses mid FEB next year (Will be in the area general area for work).

 

First thing we did was lookup the weather the last two years and to us it looks "positive" but you never know really. It shows mid 50's to high 60's during mid FEB.

 

BUT we also noticed over a 10 day stretch you can have 55/62/61/70/62/43/62/54/61/67... so some up and down with that one "odd" day where it drops a decent amount.

 

Given this, how is really for playing golf?? I say it that way as living in Denver we play in Dec/Jan when its high 40's / low 50's once or twice a month and its brisk but no issues....you just hope the wind does not blow LOL

I am 35 minutes north of Nashville.

 

Weather is a crap shoot. Here is what I can almost guarantee you. In February there will be snow. There will be days that the high is 60. There will be days that the high will not break 35. (That goes for January, February and March for that matter.) Which days those are and are they consecutively cold or consecutively warm is a roll of the dice.

 

With the exception of a few of the Fairfield Glade courses in and around Crossville courses here have warm season grass fairways and an increasing number of them have bermuda greens as well. Grass will be dormant. That doesn't necessarily mean bad conditions but if it is wet and the course has had a fair amount of play you could be looking at some thin and divot filled fairways. A november dormant fairway is a bunch different than a feb, march or april dormant fairway IMO.

 

Go with expectations that there might be days you cannot or would not want to play and days where it will be nice and you should be fine. Don't be crushed if you can't play everyday you are here I guess.

If you're planning to play Sweetens, I'd play Sewanee as well, play some around Chattanooga, and possibly go further south into Alabama (FarmLinks, RTJ Trail) or Georgia that time of year to try to find some better weather.

Thank you on the feedback. Now all in debate. IF we do stay for the golf we where going to see if we can get Sewanne. We have done the RTJ trail so reason we thought of hitting up Nash. If needed based on pricing maybe we just come back in late April / May.

Pretty sound advice above. I will add that the temps here with the humidity can be much colder than what you are used to in Colorado (I am a native). 40 degrees with cloudy damp weather and a breeze - I am probably not playing and my Son and I will play year round down here.

Wet dormant bermuda is the worst. Like others said, weather is hit or miss. I normally hibernate until March.

For reference here is Manchester, TN weather. Manchester is about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga. Crap shoot. All depends on what week you are coming what weather you get.

Thanks. We moved the trip to Pinehurst next week. Weather looks decent just some rain on and off. Not showing a ton of rain amount so thinking it will be a drizzle all day....rather have if rain hard for 10-15 mains an go away LOL

An off topic question. When does the traffic die down going into Nashville coming from 40 east or 65 south? My middle son and I will be there in a few weeks and he's content with just driving thru town. Probably go 40 to 24 then 65 south to Franklin. Any construction to avoid going this way?

Hey Buddy, We played together at The Hideaway with Matt and Kenny a few years ago! Hope you are well. 440 will get you to 65 south off 40 East. If you really want to avoid

Nashville traffic, take 840. This will put you a few miles south of Franklin but it might be better if you are coming in at rush hour.

My son is wanting to see the downtown area. I told him I would at least drive him thru town. I would normally take 840 to Franklin. Good to hear from you Randy. We need to get together and play when things green up.
