Handicap question

All that beside the point. I've seen real green money handed over the counter at 4 clubs I've played comps at locally. Still say it's common . Anyone never see it happen in their experience ??

Yes. I played in a member / guest at a high end club (has hosted majors) and we won the Par Three event. They paid us each $500 in cash.

Lol. Wow. So as long as it isn't actual green backs it's ok ?

Good lord. Ambiguous and confusing, borderline hypocritical doesn't really cover that now does it ?

Anyway. So never fear Rogolf. I'm in the clear on a technicality!!! Am status reinstated!

Reading that agains it's STILL not clear.

So a gift card is ok if it cannot be redeemed for cash ? Or transferred to say Paypal then later directed to your checking account. The Visa cards I got were good for anything. I could have converted them to green money if I wanted. Am I in breach if I didn't ? I recall using them on amazon mostly. Maybe status gone again ?! Lol.

Reading that conflagration AGAIN I feel I'm close to passing the bar ..... but it seems that the card needs to be able to be used in an atm ? They don't specify my idea of an end around. I'm not sure if the normal visa gift cards are atm compatible. I may have to investigate. I still don't know if I'm in breach. ( that time )

If you can withdraw cash from an ATM with the Visa card, it's a breach but if it's limited to only paying for purchases, you're fine. Think of it as a gift voucher that is accepted in loads of places.

You might want to read the other decisions behind the link I provided. Stocks, bonds, poker chips from a casino etc. are equivalent to cash as they are convertible.

Of course, nowadays with the online marketplaces it's very easy to flip a Visa gift card for some cash if you give enough of a discount to the buyer but it is the same with a brand new driver, a bag etc. You can argue the line and where it is drawn is arbitrary and that's open for discussion. To me there's a clear difference, you can sell the stock for full value (excluding possible transaction fees) but you'd struggle to do so with the prizes amateurs are allowed to receive.

What I find interesting is that an amateur golfer can't accept a scholarship as a prize but golfers with college scholarships (for playing golf) are considered amateurs.

Agree there for sure. Hadn’t even thought of that. Very much another can of worms on why the ncaa doesnt share a piece of the $ pie with the horses who generate it. Then the idea that you state comes from the other end. A scholarship can’t be a prize. But yet ncaa athletes are still ams. I’d personally like to see college players lose their am status for the duration of their college playing time. Why ? To remove them from the higher level am events working guys and gals play in. They have all day ( don’t give me the going to class excuse ) to practice and play and Joe Schmo has to work 9-5 and squeeze in time. Let them play for $ while in school too. Mini tours whatever. Then after college eligibility is up they sign papers of intent one way or another. Easy.

It’s not the grey areas that bother me. It’s the idea a lot seem to have and project that the grey areas don’t exist.
