Hey folks, I'm heading down to Orlando for the PGA show in a couple of week and wanted to get some input. We've booked a tee time for Falcon's Fire on Tuesday afternoon and wanted to find out if the course is in good condition and worth $65.

 

Also, if you have any other suggestions regarding places to play I'd love to hear them. We are staying in the Kissimmiee area near the intersection of E. Osceola Pkwy. and Buenaventura Blvd. We would like to plays as close to where we are staying as possible while keeping the rates under $75. We are not looking to take any road trips to play golf.

 

Last year we stayed further south in the Davenport area and played Celebration, Providence and Highlands Reserve.

 

I know this course has been discussed in this forum in the past, but I'd like to get some up-to-date opinions.

Try Southern Dunes. It's about a 20-25 min ride from Celebration. We are going down as well for the Show and playing the weekend before (18-21). Playing Hawks Landing, 36 at Championsgate, 36 at Grand Cypress, and 18 at the Ritz. We stay in Celebration as well and everything is relatively short driving distances.

Thanks for the response. We stayed in the neighborhood around Southern Dunes last year but didn't play it. I think greens fees were in the $125-140 range. It looked really nice but we didn't like the price.

 

We have a guy with us who is the assistant at our course and has a baby on the way. We are trying to keep our rounds affordable.

No chance Southern Dunes costs that much if you book via teetimesusa.com I don't believe. Other then the holes with the homes around them the course itself is really good and fun to play. Greens are usually great as well.

Southern Dunes is a great course. Falcons Fire is relatively easy, but the pace of play tends to suck. I haven't played there in a while, but it is usually in good condition.

 

I would try to get on ChampionsGate Country Club (*not the resort*). I'm not sure what their fees are.

 

The Legends course at Orange Lake Resort is a good layout, but I don't know about the conditioning. I would say that Falcon's Fire is likely in better condition than Orange Lake Resort. But, I prefer playing Orange Lake Resort more.

 

Other courses that are in the price range that you're looking for are:

 

North Shore

Eagle Creek

Harmony Golf Preserve

 

Out of all of the courses I listed, I would rank them:

 

1. Harmony Golf Preserve

2. Eagle Creek

3. Falcons Fire

4. Orange Lake Resort

5. North Shore.

We tried last year at a couple of places and there were no courtesy rounds. We played at Providence last year and I think they charged our pro and assistant $45 each.

 

There are so many pros and assistants in Orlando for the show that if courses around offered courtesy rounds for pros and assistants the courses would go broke.

I second North Shore. We usually play there first thing off the plane. It’s usually in decent condition overall, but the greens usually run pretty quick compared to other courses.

Just an update....

 

We have FF booked for Tuesday afternoon, but it looks like we are not going to make our tee time because we will be playing Isleworth on Tuesday morning at 9:30. I'm not sure how my buddy pulled it off, but he did.

 

We also have North Shore booked for Friday.

isleworth should be crowded this week; we had a tee time this weekend there but business got in the way;

 

ask your buddy to book a round at nona if he can get on isleworth; i'll be there wednesday with monte during lunch time.

Harmony is in pretty great shape right now. I played it last weekend and it was green and smooth. Unique Johnny Miller design, not sure how many courses he has done but its as long as you want it to be. Amenities leave a little to be desired but its not too far from the turnpike to 192.
