2019 Meijer LPGA Classic Jun 13 - 16

Recommended Posts

This thing should have been all but settled, but Brooke decided to take the day off. Well, until the final three holes. Her ballstriking was suspect, but oh those putts left short. Ouch. We'll see if this round was a fluke.

Lexi is getting more confident with her putting stroke. It's going to be a fun Sunday.

Wow all down to that last putt ... congrats to Brooke! I am glad she held on to it after her great first two days. Thank you to the powers-that-be for letting us see the finish.

Lexi's always exciting when she's putting well. Sorry for Annie's back nine, but still a great tournament for her.

I had picked So Yeon ... she did get a top 10, so that is good too.

Super excited for Su. Wish one more putt had fallen somewhere, what might have been. But can't think that way, just really happy to see her find her game again, and get closer to that first win.

Congrats to Brooke, she had a shaky weekend but still hung in at the end. I felt bad for Su on that last putt she was extremely nervous, she's gotta get to the top more to conquer that. Lexi looks great with the new putting style, she was making some bombs today. Jennifer K. had a great tournament, very good learning experiencen today for moving forward. I'm liking Nasa for her first Major next week, she seems to be in good form.

I don't get bothered by it much anymore cause it's just a number, I know the exact numbers of days won't match up, but if you go back 2 years to fathers day (the week of the Meijer) Brooke has won 6 time on tour and Monday she won't even be in the Top 5 of the Rolex world rankings lol

A top 30 for In Gee; better than missing cut or bottom of the barrel finishes. The next challenge is to make cut next week at the KPMG Women's PGA.

Kristen Gillman had her second top 10 of the year, she finished atop of collegiate rookies again this week. She pushes her earnings to over $220,000, good for Top-80 2019 priority list.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. As I noted yesterday, this had all the makings of an exciting finish. I'm glad I didn't post mid-round, because I was scratching my head. There were no early fireworks with the leaders treading water. Jennifer looked solid for three days, and then the putter abandoned her. Lexi was one over on the front. What? Su looked promising, but went flat on the back nine. It looked like Brooke was going to phone this one in.

Lol. Not so fast. What a nailbiter. Nasa goes ballistic. Lexi lights up the back nine. Su birdies 16 to give herself a shot. Brittany birdies 14 to go to 20 under. When Brooke pulled her teeshot on 17, I thought she had tossed it away. However, she got a good break. 'Not sure if the camera lost the ball, or if it hit a tree, but it sure didn't look like she had a clear shot at the green.

Anyway, nice win for Brooke. She only had one bogie on the day, so it was a better round than it seemed at times. One does start to worry when she goes five holes without a birdie, though.

Nasa and Lexi both appear ready for the KPMG next week. Lexi has a 2T, 1, and 2T in her last three starts. Her midrange putting looks fantastic.

Su is going to be reliving that birdie putt on 18 for a while. That was an important one. 'Solid finish for Brittany with her first top 10 this season.

OK, what's up with Morgan? A year ago she looked like she was ready to sail off into the retirement sunset. It may be only her second top 10 of the season, but she seems to have found her game.

Nelly and So Yeon quietly had a fine week. 'Good warm-up for next week's major. While the eyes were on Jennifer, Kristen was quietly sneaking into the top 10 for the second time this season. 'Nice.

OK, the "par 5" finishing hole is more than a bit of a gimmick, but it sure does make for an exciting finish.

Yeah Morgan has been playing great, maybe I'll have to start paying more attention to what Martin Hall is saying and less time checking out Blair lol

After how Brooke's bogey came about today, I'm thinking Brittany will be calling the shots a the KPMG lol

Eventually I think Lexi's putting will revert to the mean but ride that horse til it bucks you off lol

Lexi simply needs to sink every long putt, or leave it 6+ feet short. The knee knockers are her nemesis.

Grant's a good guy, and I'll give him a pass today, but I had to shout at my screen when Lexi hit her tee shot at 18, and he said, "Lexi _probably_ needs eagle here." Ummm. No. Nasa is in the clubhouse at -20, and Lexi is at -18. She _definitely_ needs eagle.

Still can't beat Terry and Judy in the booth. Lexi's putting is going to make me pick her for the KPMG this coming week. Kupcho is fun to watch. I can see Brooke winning 30 plus tournaments if she doesn't go full Lydia Ko.

Brooke is certainly the real deal. Long off the tee. Hits a lot of greens. Gets hot with the putter. No real flaws in her game except for maybe her sand play. She's been 4th, 6th, and 3rd the last three seasons on the money list.

Brooke is definitely the real deal. I struggle to see how anyone can have her outside the top 5 even at the start of the season (of course, she could have gone sideways like others this year but to start the year it seemed kind of obvious).

I thought she would be a multiple winner again this year. So one box checked. Would be great to see her pick up the Women's Open or Evian (or both if she can pull the back-to-back) to move off the 1 major camp.

Muni made the cut for the 2nd week in a row, and finished 39T. Again, small steps. Youngin Chun also made her 2nd cut of the season.

It's tough out there for the young rookies.

Is there a reason why Muni turned pro "early?". I assume she got some endorsement money so thought to cash in a bit on the potential? Ie she's not bad but doesn't seem as highly rated as some of the other recent college players.

It's fine but just odd if the decision for a young woman to go pro is not if you are the best golfer but have the highest potential marketability...

You're right, Muni was a good collegiate golfer; but she's never a super star like Kristen Gillman or Jennifer Kupcho.

But the difference between LPGA and top NCAA wasn't that much; rookies just need time and experience to be competitive.

Muni is represented by IMG and she's Nike and other endorsement. But they're biginner contracts that don't pay enough to sustain a living.

'Not sure. She probably figured that two more years of college golf wasn't going to make her more prepared for the pro ranks. She spent a year on the Symetra Tour where she won once, and then got her card in last year's Q Series. I think she has the talent to make a living on tour, but she'll likely struggle to make it into the World's Top 100.

Gotcha. I didn't know if she got something that was "somewhat meaningful" (like a few million over several years) as a risk bet by the sponsors to back her early. Otherwise, from her standpoint the contracts would bw beat if they are very short term. If she makes it as a player, she will be able to sign for truckloads...

I've also noticed lots of playful mentions lately of making the Solheim North American, so to be able to grab Brooke and also Maria Fassi and Gaby Lopez potentially. Altough Brooke in an interview earlier this season kind of politely and diplomatically hinted she not interested in that, she did say however she'd love a presidents cup style team. The more I think about it the more I would like this type of event if it was against a Team Korea. If you take America and Europe out of it, a world team would be quite competitive IMO. Brooke, Minjee, Lydia, Ariya, Moriya, Shan Shan, Yu Liu, Maria Fassi, Gaby Lopez and others I'm forgetting, I think would be a fun battle with the Korean Jauggernaut.
