Yeah, she's doing quite well, especially given the lack of coverage that you mention above. I always look to see where she is. Not that "I know" - I'm just following the people that appear to "know" what's going on.

Interesting if there are really only 6 - 9 tournaments left for a lot of these people to determine their ranking / status for the year. Both the rookies and veterans/popular names.

A lot could still happen the rest of the way, but I wonder if nothing changes if this could be the end of HYP and NYC? HYP got the final Top 80 spot last year. I guess she could still play a bit if she ends up in one of the lower ranking groups, but I also wonder since she got married last year. NYC could use the Career Top 20 Money exemption but her game is so far off I could see her moving on (or just play when you can for the fun of it).

I's crazy about NYC in 2012 but the attention waned over the years; I've never paid attention to HYP.

My immediate concern is whether In Gee will fall out of top-55 money list and/or top-60 Race to CME Globe to fall out Fall Asian Tour and/or CME Group Tour Championship.

In Gee hasn't had a top-10 this year; a dramatic drop from when she'd the best percentage of top-10 and top-2 finishes.

I may have to give up on In Gee if she continues to stock in a rut.

On tv, it didn't look like many people were there. Yes of course, Green Bay fans are phonies. Don't believe me? Ask Dan Devine's dog.

It's hard to say when a player might hang it up. There are still plenty of journeywomen with 10+ years on tour out there trying to make a living. Hee Young, MJ, Ashleigh Buhai, Jeong Eun Lee 5, Sarah Kemp, Haeji Kang, Lee-Anne Pace, Christina Kim, Sarah Jane Smith. All it takes is a handful of decent finishes to keep their cards.

LPGA reached a peak of 33 tournaments and $60.3 million purse in 2008, a low of 23 and $41.5 million in 2011. This year, it's 32 and $71.0 million.

Most likely, purse will double to more than $150 million in the next 5-8 years.

Veterans who joined the tour around 2008 took the blunt of the financial hit; they should stick around and earn as much they can.

The problem is that most of the veterans struggle to make cuts. There are only 8 players with more than ten years on tour that are currently in the top 50 on the money list (Eun Hee, Amy, Inbee, Pornanong, Morgan, IK, Katherine, Anna). There are only 11 additional players with more than ten years ranked 51st through 100th on the money list (MJ, Stacy, Alena, Cristie, Sarah, Brittany Lang, Haeji, Paula, Sandra, Hee Young, Angela). In the Top 100, only Cristie and Angela have more than 15 years on tour.

It beats putting in a 9-5 with a bunch of a**hats in the office.

The 2008 figures are an interesting reference point. I knew the tournament count dipped and came back, but I figured the money now was substantially ahead of the 2008 figure (which it's not). No doubt that they pie will continue to increase in years ahead, which is great for the players. But put in the context of overall sports revenues/salaries, this paints a much different picture than just looking at the last 5 years or so. I haven't calculated it, but I wonder if over the last 5 years the LPGA purses have grown more/less than other sports purses/salaries.

Seems to be an odd omission, no? They have Jennifer Kupcho listed. Leave it to Ping to leave off their most successful rookie on tour.

But put in the context of overall sports revenues/salaries, this paints a much different picture than just looking at the last 5 years or so. I haven't calculated it, but I wonder if over the last 5 years the LPGA purses have grown more/less than other sports purses/salaries.

Hasn't PGA purses grown in the past 5 years?

> Hasn't PGA purses grown in the past 5 years?

2013

Masters, $8.0 million

US Open, $8.0 million

The Open, $8.01 million

PGA, $8.0 million

2019

Masters, $11.5 million

PGA, $11.0 million

US Open, $12.5 million

The Open, $10.75 million

The growth from 2008 to 2013 was slow; but pace quickens since 2013.

I'm never giving up on In Gee.

So do I!

I've invested 4 years and tremendous amount of hours to follow her.

Hee Young, MJ, Ashleigh Buhai, Jeong Eun Lee 5, Sarah Kemp, Haeji Kang, Lee-Anne Pace, Christina Kim, Sarah Jane Smith. All it takes is a handful of decent finishes to keep their cards.

I agree. I have no specific insight on the two I mentioned (MJ is actually pretty similar to HYP; won twice, made $4-$5 MM on the course, been out there around 10 years, and got married but it still playing). Some just love the game and want to play as long as they can, even if it's at a diminished level. Some always think they are 1 range session away from finding it again. Others just realize they don't know what else to do with themselves. Others move on and are just as happy or happier doing something else. None of these are right or wrong.

Attached is a quick table of Prize Money and Prize Money per Tournament for the LPGA and PGA Tours along with CAGRs. Since 2011, the LPGA has grown faster (total prize money), although on a per tournament basis the figures are comparable (not sure what the best way to look at this is given the LPGA contracted the most from 2008 to 2011). From 2008, the PGA Tour has grown a bit quicker. Although from 2008 both tours have seen growth rates below that of the NFL/NBA salary caps (maybe not surprising given that golf seems to have struggled).

Note, some of the golf figures don't match the PGA Tour releases exactly (not sure if the releases included the FedEx Cup Champion Bonus). There has also been some change in Official Events over the years (China WGC for one) that also can skew things a bit, but generally the direction/trend is probably OK.

Interesting to see what the next 5-10 years looks like...
