2019 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic Jul 04 - 07

Very interested to see how Yealimi Noh holds up in the final round. Her rounds have been 63-65-69 so scores rising. This is the LPGA now, so a good final round with the best players on tour right at your shoulders is the acid test. All her many new fans would so like to see a low score - that would be really something.

Says something about the mysteries of the game when someone at the top of their profession and holding a huge tournament lead suddenly forgets how to swing a golf club. SHP's technical melt-down was painful to watch and reminiscent of too many rounds of my own.

An educational round for Yealimi:

 

"Sung Hyun Park played alongside Yealimi Noh, the young professional making waves in Oneida. She said Noh’s maturity at a young age surprised her."

“She spoke very good Korean so I had time to speak with her some. Went to Thornberry yesterday with the wife and walked most of the course. Decided to sit at holes 9,10 and 15 most of the day because it seemed that is where most of the spectators were located. I would have to say I was bummed with the lack of spectators but given it is the weekend of July 4th I guess I should not have been surprised. We saw a lot of good golf. Does anyone know if they have signed a extension yet ?

Her face is a little too fresh if you ask me. Still, she must be the real deal. Those Hana Bank people know golf, and I doubt they would sponsor a golfer on account of face alone.

I was actually hoping Brooke would take next week off too, but I guess I should thankful that the CP Media day was this week or next week Brooke would have been playing 8 in row lol. If Yellani wins maybe then have a combination of pairings with pre 18 year old winners, amongst Lexi, Lydia or Brooke with Yellani. I do really appreciate players who have the self-belief to try an turn pro at 17, when they have no real home to play on but are willing to risk it and know they have the talent.

Is this the first final round pairing of Ariya and Sung Hyun with them being leaders?

 

If Tiff Joh wins she probably cries for 7 days and giggles for 8 (if it was a Major those days would be double). She could use a win to add credibility to her future (potential) broadcast career.

I want to see Nasa, Sei Young and Yu Liu go after and lower the single round course record.

Omg yeah, this was driving me crazy! I've barely heard of her, she's all of 17, first pro game - how on Earth does she * already * have the big-time Hana Bank as her sponsor??

Hana "we will cut you" Bank. Hana "Sung Hyun who? Nahh" Bank. Blew my armchair mind.

Well, I have to say a duel between Sung Hyun and Ariya, both doing well, would be one of the best rumbles you could get. Like when they faced off in the IC.

 

But totally cheering for Tiffany! Was asking the golf gods for good luck for her a lot. You can do it!

11 under and 3 eagles is a hell of a round. Right now, though, there are 5 players on -7 so it's a day where you can go low.

Looking at the scores so far the leaders have to be thinking they need -7 or -8 today. Hell, maybe lower if someone lights it up.

Feel a little bad for Sung Hyun. Man o man, heavy lays the crown. Only explanation I can think of, never seen her seem stressed out at points like that. Ariya too, she was leading so long today, must been a surprise.

Super happy for Tiffany. I'd been a bit worried about her this season, had no idea this was coming. Just great, happy to see a lot of her and happy.

Happy with Mina doing great too.

This was a fun tourney! I give the strength of field a rating of: Just Right. We had the tops in the world slugging it out, players from the field turning out great play, and a big new contender. Great all around.
