I have a number of Ram catalogs from that era, but they didn't put those specs in them as other companies often did.

Thanks. I have a friend that still plays them and wants to check them against original specs.

@crazygolfnut

Did another Google search, ran across this post from another golf forum, about 13 years ago. As a caveat, I think he was referring to the cast FX set from the late 90s.

I would be inclined to think the FX2 Forged might be 21 24 27 for 3i thru 5i, and 4* from there to a 47* PW (which are the specs for the FX Nickels, FWIW). If you have access to a golf shop with a loft and lie machine, it might be worth checking one of the irons from 5-9, with one eye towards how the bounce and offset look, compared to that loft result.

Here's that post I found:

_"I used to have a set of the Ram FX. Here were the lofts on those. 3i - 20* 4i - 23* 5i - 26* 6i - 30* 7i - 34* 8i - 38* 9i - 42* P - 46* G - 50* S - 55* L - 60* "_

Adding to the previous post, digging thru old Usenet, I found a guy who had bent his super weak, or he was off by one club. His lofts suggested a 48* PW, with either a 21* or 20* 3 iron.

First off, we must keep in mind that the FX name was continued after RAM's acquisition by Tommy Armour, so the posts of stronger lofted clubs one finds refer to later sets. I have ALL of the FX sets from this period, most of them complete. I do not have a loft and lie machine but have compared them to sets I do own of Wilson RM MidSize and Wilson FG62's with known lofts and find them identical up to the wedges (as stated above by NRJyzr):

Interesting side notes explained in more detail:

Ram wedges of the time were marked P,W,M,S and L

P and W are both pitching wedge designations (P forged, W cast generally)

M middle (gap)

S sand in some, gap in others (See below)

L lob

SoS9dVS.jpg

Ram catalogues of the time list a 51 degree Middle (Gap wedge) for the forged Pro-Set(I've never seen one, but it must exist) with a 55 degree Sand Wedge and 60 Degree Pitching Wedge (I have those), while the Pro-Set cast, FX oversize and FX Nickel oversize M wedges are also 51 or 52 degree Gap wedges). (I have the one for the Pro-Set Cast).

Year: (1995) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind

1 Iron (17°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
2 Iron (19°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
3 Iron (21°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
4 Iron (24°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
5 Iron (27°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
6 Iron (31°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
7 Iron (35°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
8 Iron (39°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
9 Iron (43°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
PWedge (47°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
GWedge (51°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
SWedge (55°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind
LWedge (60°) RAM Fx Pro-Set Tour Grind

The other FX sets of the time appear to have 51 or 52 degree Sand Wedges with no additional "set wedges" offered AFAIK)*. This would include both nickel sets (blades and cavity back), FX2, FX Off-Set and FX Tour Grind Blade.

That means the S wedge in these sets IS the Gap wedge you've been looking for. (I have 3 of those 4 so I know this first hand).

*There appears to be some other (possibly set independent) FX wedges offered during this period, but I have no information on those.

as this post has been revitalized, so has my interest in these irons.

as @UlfBane shows above, Ram and TA were both made it seems, at the same plant.

I picked up a set of FX2's a while back, thinking I'd give them a try one of these days.

was a long time 845 player.

Took the Rams out a couple weekends ago, after playing Hogan CBs (The Callaway X-14 clones) for the last few seasons.

like the way the feel, these have DGR300 shafts.

recall having a set of TA's with the same shafts that performed well - whatever that's worth.

might have to upsize the std grips though, and they feel about an inch too long - I prefer a shorter setup.

these are nice sticks. soft at impact - to me - and well balanced.

narrower sole and squarer toe than the Tommy.

is anyone still hitting them or have any thoughts on playing the FX2's ?
