For most golfers Birdies are going to be a function of:

How many GIR'

How well you hit your wedges

Putting line & speed

Want more birdies improve those 4 things.

Don't forget to like my posts I'd be ever so grateful.

Over the last 2 years I think I've had six Eagles, and a host of birdies. I am a 14 handicap golfer and probably average this year less than 1 birdie per round. It's sort of strange how streaky I can be, but lately the streak has been a bit on the negative side as my swing has gone a bit awry.

12.7 index. I avg. .33 birdies per round, which obviously equates to 1 every 3 rounds. 11-15 hdcps don't make 2-3 birdies/round; it just doesn't square w/ reality. Think about it; a 13 hdcp on a course rating 70 course shoots about 86 on avg (3 shots higher than the handicap, which measures potential). 3 birds would mean that that the 13 hdcp shoots 17 over par on the remaining 15 holes. Leaves very little room for the other 5 or 6 pars that a typical 13 hdcp would make (to go along w/ the 2-3 birds). And even if you buy the 2-3 birds in the typical 7-9 good holes a mid-capper has, then you necessitate an inordinate number of triple bogeys, which is also very non-representative of a 13 hdcp or so.

I suppose there are the odd examples of birdie/triple bogey-prone golfers; I just haven't played with ANYONE of that ability level that does that beyond the outlier type of round.

I had an incredibly ironic round yesterday after participating in this thread.

Score: 76

FIR: 12/14

GIR: 13/18

Putts: 34

14 Pars and 4 bogeys. Not a single birdie. It's definitely my first round in the 70s without one.

Driver: Ping G400 Max w/ Ping Alta CB 55 Stiff (44.5")

Fairway: Ping G410 SFT 3W w/ Ping Alta CB 65 Stiff

Hybrids: Titleist 818 H1 3H/4H w/ Aldila Rogue Black 85 Stiff

Irons: Ping i210 5i-UW w/ Nippon Modus 3 Tour 105 Stiff (+0.5"/1.5* upright)

Wedges: Ping Glide Stealth 2.0 54 SS / 58 ES w/ Ping AWT 2.0 Wedge Flex

Putter: Taylormade Spider X Navy (35")

I looked at a ton of old score cards. The mode was one birdie. It's a close contest to see if 2 out paces zero to bring the average to 1. I would say that it does anytime I'm below about a 14 index or so over the last two years. The course and tees heavily influence the outcome. The lowest score I had without a birdie was 84, which was from the tips at my course before it closed. There are two birdie rounds as high as 88. and single birdie rounds right up to the high 90s. In tournament rounds it is a bit fewer; only in my best performances did I average one per round over two or three rounds, but only last year's tourneys were played at any kind of marginally decent index.

I'm a 12.3. I keep detailed statistics of my rounds on an app and have for years, so I can say with accuracy that I've had 10 birdies over my last 20 rounds. On two occasions over the last 20 rounds I've had 2 birdies in the same round (actually happened twice in my last 5 rounds) and I'm far more likely to birdie a par 3 than a par 5 as my iron play is the strongest part of my game. I'm an "ok" wedge player and not a fantastic putter at all, so my birdies usually come by sticking a tee shot close.

I need to work on my putting.
