Mission Inn, Deer Island, or Black Bear. What layout is currently the best?

I've played all three. When I lived in Orlando I used to love to take a drive up to play these courses. It was relaxing going through the countryside of central Florida.

 

But its been 20 years since I played any of them. How are they right now and which one is the best for your $$ ?? The reason I am asking this is that I am coming down to Orlando in a couple weeks and feel that if I go out to say Shingle Creek or Falcons Fire, its just gonna be way too crowded. Driving up to Black Bear or Deer Island for example, I would think that those don't get as much play? Especially Deer Island?

 

BTW I recently read that Magnolia Plantation was sold a few years ago, and thats a shame. What a great layout that was when it first opened.

Mission Inn or Deer Island. But, if you play Mission Inn it's only worth playing the El Campeon and that may get a little crowded. Deer Island should be wide open.

 

Course you may want to consider if you're willing to drive that far is RedTail or Juliette Falls.

Mission inn was in much better shape then Deer Island about a month ago when i played them. Deer Island was recently bought out by a guys who owns a nursery and wants to get the course back into good shape. they said they were going to dump a ton of seed on the course sometime in Oct. Both were pretty much empty the days i played them.

Mission Inn's greens fee are more than double of Black Bear or Deer Isl but it's worth it. I wouldn't overlook the Los Colinas course at Mission Inn either.

 

Eagle Dunes is on the way out to Black Bear and RedTail. Nice, affordable course with some of the best greens around. I haven't played Black Bear or RedTail in awhile.

 

I played Deer Isl a couple weeks ago and it's in nice shape... except for about 3 greens that are pretty much totaled. Also, IMO Deer Isl. is tougher than any of the above courses. Water everywhere.
