If a swing looks better on video than what the results would indicate, what are the likely causes?

Very few folks have dramatically different looking swings back to back unless there is a ton of exaggeration going on, and even then the changes are typically pretty subtle. Would be interested what you can do to go from tour to 10 from swing to swing

On good swings my backswing stays laid off and doesnt steepen in transition. On bad swings it gets to the same spot in the backswing but the shaft steepens in transition.

Which also stalls my rotation and I lift the handle for a block or even a snap hook. I have one major fault that fundamentally changes the rest of my swing.

Truly good swings on video rarely produce truly bad results, that or your "good" swings still have the major flaw (to some extent), you just time/execute the compensations better and thus the over all result and look is better.

But not in before you already answered your own question. Absent the tour pro swing video and bad result being shown, really not much anyone can say that would relate specifically to any issue you have.

And that's the point, when your good swing legitimately dont still have a major fault, but your bad swings do...where do you go from there.

Already asked and answered, if your "good" swing was really faultless, the results would match. If you are getting bad results from your "good" swing, well it's likely not as good as you think and you are just not skilled enough to spot the subtle things that result in poor results.

9 times out of 10, folks think there might be some intangible they are missing that is resulting in the poor results, when in reality it's an underlying flaw they just can't spot. Same holds true for the "why is my practice swing so much better than my real swing" question that gets asked every so often.

It isnt bad results from the good swing. It is bad results on less than my good swings.

Here is one example 6 iron. 0 * difference face to path - straight ball in direction of face. 5* difference( open to path) 14 to 20 yard slice based on swing speed. 2* difference just 6-8 yard slice. Even less of a difference with driver to get big hooks and slices. Swing can look exactly the same but just a small difference in face to path can cause big curves. Ams are decent with repeating path but not so much with low point, face to path, Aoa, hitting sweet spot, ball position, . . . Only takes a little difference at speed to have widely varying results.

Bingo, on video would look very similar. In the OPs case he said he can tend to get steep, even just a bit of a handle pull can open the face in transition and give to very different outcomes.

I think your bad swings probably get bad results because they are bad swings. That’s why they are named such.

Faults under no pressure and faults under pressure are the same. No pressure, golfers manage them better.

good swings and bad swings of an individual are functionally the same.

All golf swings are like an intoxicated driver. Open road, no cars, no obstacles....no problem.

Whats the difference between a drunk driver that makes it home and one that crashes?....luck.

What does this even mean? How do you even compare the two if one is meaningless and one is under pressure? Only one of those two swings matter.

For example, in the vlog of you at the long beach open on the bebettergolf channel, were you not saying that you were steepening the shaft in transition more than your normal swing and that you played like a mid/low handicap golfer havinging a career short game day? Is that not different than what your swing looks like at its best?

Same Faults are still there. I always do that, I was just doing it worse than normal the first day because there were no range balls.

So do you not think that someone could extrapolate that to be the norm? There normal swings on video might even indicate a fault that could flare up more pronounced in a round, but on that particular video it is under control?
