Melbourne's Best Public Access Courses

If you are not a member at RM, KH and Co where are the best courses to play in and around Melbourne?

These are my top 10 without thinking too much about it. Probably left some good ones out:

St Andrews Beach

The Dunes

13th Beach - Beach Course

Cape Schanck

Growling Frog

Torquay Dunes

Eagle Ridge

13th Beach - Creek

Gardiners Run

Flinders

Be interested to hear others assessment. I guess others to consider would be Eynesbury, Waterford, Devil Bend, Rosebud, Ranfurlie, Settlers Run, Sandhurst. Too many!

Chanceman, would definitely have Portsea in there, wonderful "old school" course, certainly above Eagle Ridge.

Whilst I don't have a lot of love for the Open course at Moonah, I'm always happy to play the Legends

Yah, I forgot about Moonah Links. Hard to love indeed but as you say the Legends is good and maybe one day i'll play the Open course again. Must be 10 years.

Portsea is good but its private isnt it? Or can anyone play? I played it once with a member.

Im in Melbourne now，compared to golf in Asia that Im used to Melbourne is much cheaper and far superior.

Thursday I played Sandhurst champions $79 tees and fairways near perfect greens pretty quick and rolling very pure bunkers just ok.

Saturday i took a drive to the countryside and joined the mens comp at Moe. $12 what a steal. course has nice couch fairways and good greens rolling nice though not as quick as sandhurst

Tuesday Ranfurlie $75 absolute carpet from tee to green.. wide open course almost impossible to lose a ball on.. bunkers seemed to have no sand left from wind I guess.

Tomorrow im playing in the mens comp at keysborough and a few more gems next week ill update on

Maybe try Cranbourne in the SE of Melb which is a great little track.

played Keysborough today.. wow.. never seen turf so perfect. best fairway conditions ever. course itself is not fantastic layout wise sadly

Surprised to hear Keysborough in such fantastic condition.

Remember playing there many years ago and it was a total sh!t show.

Good to hear they've improved!

I just played St Andrews Beach on Tuesday - greens were a bit hit and miss but otherwise a pleasure.

 

Have also played a few lesser known public tracks which I enjoyed - Settler's Run and Waterford Valley were quite enjoyable. Give Yering Meadows a miss though - a really poor routing over average terrain.
