Putter has been reshafted with a True Temper YSC step down shaft and used a navy Pure standard grip. It feels very good in my hands.

Unfortunately, the method Ping uses is not something an individual can duplicate. I saw the machine they use a long time ago it was quite large. I'm lucky that the Ping factory is a short drive from my office.

Good story thanks for telling me about it. I know exactly what you are going through with the BP meds. I have been through it myself. You also mentioned the Royal cord putter grips. Those were my go to grips for years. Still have quite a few on various Ironmasters. I like the way your Ping turned out. My Santa Fe has a similar story I think. I did drive a truck for a metal recycling company ( semi retired now) and could find all sorts of clubs in the bins. I found my Scotty one day on the yard. From the way the sole is rusted and pitted I think someone found it in a lake. I checked into restoring it and did not want to pay the price plus the sole would have needed to be re ground and stamped. It was light for me as it was so lead tape covers the sole. The shaft was also pretty rusty. No problem since I do my own club work. I used a fluted Bulls Eye shaft because I have quite a few laying around all junk pile finds.

I like your putter a lot. Find a nice feeling and looking head and repair it in a practical way. Fluted shafts have a great feel if your stroke likes a little flex. Lead tape covers up the rust on the sole and increases the weight in the right place. The guys at the Ping factory always tell me I ruin the MOI with the amount of lead tape I put in the cavities in my Ansers.

I still have a few Royal putter grips for projects. and still use the Royal V Sand Wrap grip.

From what I have been told they were designed to combat side to side torque. Personally I like the feel of them in certain putters. For me and this is strictly me It gives me a firm but soft feel. I also have the conversion on my SS Ping Zing 2. Not that I am a rocket scientist or anything I found out by need. I am embarrassed to say this. I once had a bad temper and one day I threw the Zing and broke the shaft, Now those clubs use a shaft over hosel type shaft. I was playing a tournament the next day and did not have a new shaft. I had a couple of old Bulls Eyes laying around. WTH? the shaft will work. Put it in the Zing and loved it. Been a fan of the conversion ever since. I found the Scotty on a scrap pile at work and it was RUSTY shaft and all. I retrieved it and did the same conversion.

Howard Jones who posts here on the Clubmakers Forum or Tad Moore who posts over in Classic Golf and Golfers section can give you a more comprehensive engineering answer than I can. I just know it works for me. There is one other WRX member ( forgot his name) that uses the same conversion on a Santa Fe

The guys at the Ping factory IMHO are in the right church but wrong pew on the lead tape in the cavity deal. The lead tape I have found in the cavity of any Anser style putter will deaden it some. I know in the old days with the sound slot Ansers a piece of lead tape down the sole quietens them up and also dampens the rebound effect of the face.

On all my putters and other clubs I weight up strictly by feel. For some reason I was blessed with an uncanny sense of feel. I have a SW machine but do not use it on my personal clubs. I also have a gram scale and have no idea the gram weight on any of my putter heads. I also tune basically for the day with lead tape. If I am playing really fast slick greens I may temporarily put a piece of lead tape in the cavity to deaden it some. If that does not work in practice then I go to the car and get one of my Ironmasters.

Earlier on you were talking about BP meds I can very well relate. I went to a SS grip on the Scotty and am well pleased. Just did not have the heart to put one on a Ironmaster. I know I can be anal. Did a trade deal and ended up with a ( of all things) Lynx Black Cat which is a more 8802 style with a insert. It already had a SS grip and a good feel. On the Royal grips a golf store up the street had a barrel full of the old Royal cord putter grips. They are a little different than yours mine have red and blue threads. I had quite a few of them. Since I use air I can put them on and off. Several of my Ironmasters have the original leather wrap grips and no I will not defile them. I had also about 2 years ago went to the claw grip with my hands and it feels natural to me now. LOL a while back Played in a Vintage event and was using a real nice Ironmaster reproduction with a composite shaft and Neunman leather grip. Some old cat raised sand because I was using a claw grip. He did not notice basically I was using a reproduction. Of course if he had raised sand about that I could have went to the car and got my 64 JN 100 or my George Lowe 600 Wilson. Basically the tournament director told him to shut up. Actually I putt decent with that putter using a claw grip.

We used to wrap a sticky gauze around putter grips to build them up. Scott Verplank did this with his Anser for example.

Oh yeah I do it all the time especially with some of my junk pile finds. I use the gauze wrap. I do it to save time even though I air on my grips. LOL my 57 Diamond Backs I found them on one of the bins on a Friday got home late and wanted to play on Saturday. I wrapped those things with gauze tape. They hit so good I left them alone, Been that way 2 years now. In fact the Lynx 8802 style I told you about that SS is flaking off and I am just going to wrap it especially at the price SS grips are these days. The latest thing I have heard of on here and Persimmon Golf Society is tennis racket tape. I have not tried that yet.

Actually that Saturday I had a little bet. I played an all junkyard set everything including the bag came off the junk pile and I had less than $5 in the whole thing including the raggedy Titleist stand bag that the whole rusty mess was in. I was literally wrapping the grips on the Diamond Backs at the bag drop. The prim and proper tourist golfer crowd was gwalking wide open stares . The bet was I could not break 80 with that get up. I shot 79. Told the tourist golfers I had less in the whole shooting match than they had in a sleeve of Pro Vs.

If someone is not worried about saving the shaft cut it off at the top of the hosel and use course Dremel grinding stones to grind out the ball bearing. Its pretty soft and it took me about 10-15 minutes and two grinding stones. I have done it a couple of times using this method. No damage to the head at all.
